435i F36 N55 turbo sound

Hi all,

Been driving with my 435i for quite some time now. Its a 07/2014 model with MPPK and MPE exhaust.

Under full load acceleration, you can hear an almost metallic whistle/sound. Some say its from the turbo, but i am not sure.

The car drives perfectly, throws no error codes and does not loses it boost.

I've attached a video, maybe someone here that could point me in the right direction?

Much appreciated!

Roger

Itís hard to diagnose on the internet but that sounds like a turbo bearing to me, speaking from personal experience in an N54. Iíd get a confirmation at a shop and then youíll need a new turbo.

Hi,

I understand. I've never encountered a turbo defect in a >2014 N55 engine. I've actually found multiple owners in Germany who have the same noise, have been driving it for thousands of miles without problems.

If it would be a bearing, shouldnt there be a loss of power? Thanks for the input!

No power loss when it happened to me. The sound just kept getting worse until it was a metallic screech. Get it checked out. Thatís not normal turbo whine.

New turbo is about $3500 at a dealer. Just had mine replaced on 2013 335i about 2 months ago
