BMW Lightning Adapter Cable

Anyone know where I can find this? There's a picture of the Lightning adapter on one of the pages on the site, but I cannot for the life of me find it anywhere. It would be great if I can get this for my iPhone 7 and not have to use a 30-pin to Lightning adapter on top of the 30-pin adapter.

Do our cars have two USB ports? How is this better than an original apple cable?

Nope just one. The only difference would be that they swapped the 30-pin on the original cable to a Lightning connection. This is good because I wouldn't have to use the Apple 30-pin to Lightning adapter.

The original adapter has one 3.5mm male and one 30-pin iPhone/iPod connector. For people like myself with newer iPhones, we have to use a 30-pin female to Lightning male adapter in order for it to plug into the phone.

https://www.apple.com/shop/product/M...30-pin-adapter

This new adapter would bypass the adapter and plug directly into the iPhone.

Whats wrong with using a USB to Lightning cable?

Isn't that what you're looking for?

I'm trying to get rid of the Apple Lightning 30-pin adapter for a more streamlined fit. Less hardware and a point of failure removed.

I could also suggest a Bluetooth dongle. I use Tune2Air got it on Amazon for less (not much) I use it with Android, works better with IOS, plugs into USB and 3.5mm jacks

Thanks bud, I actually own one of those but I find the reliability is so-so. Sometimes the music cuts off and skips, other times I have to re-pair the device with my phone for it to be recognized by the iDrive. I'm thinking a plugged in connection might be more reliable.

I have had no connection issues (yet) on my second android phone (both Samsung, cue the fire jokes). Wired is typically way more reliable than radio for signal transmission. Hope it works for you as expected

I got a y cable and promptly took it back. No volume control, so it sent such a hot signal to the audio system, causing terrible distortion. Got my car codes for enhanced BT, problem (thankfully) solved.

I had this issue and used an adapter but ultimately I put all my music on a USB drive and eliminated use of the cable. You may be using other features so this may not be a good solution.

this is what I am using and while it is not as sleek as a dedicated adapter it's also not $88 and it works perfectly. It allows me to stream music from my iphone.

Thanks, I tried Lightning to 30-Pin Adapter, but is not OEM Apple. It charges the iPhone 7 but the USB is not active.

Could it be the adapter?

Thanks.

Did you also plug in the aux plug? If so then I guess it could be the adapted as mine is OEM and it works.....

OP don't waste your money. I have been using the OEM Apple USB cable in my E90 since I purchased the car. Both the 30pin and now lightening. Since they pile up with every phone upgrade I keep on full time in my car. If it works in my E90 it has to work with all F30's. All my music is on my phone and I run it through USB to keep my phone charged while listening.

Unfortunately it doesn't work that way. Some F30s, depending on how they were optioned, cannot play music off an Apple device using just a USB cable. A special y-cable from BMW is required, which connects to the phone at one end, and has both USB and headphone connectors on the other end.

OP already found listings for the Lightning based y-cable, and it's nearly $100 unfortunately. There doesn't appear to be any Apple or other 3rd party made equivalent.

To use the white Apple USB cable directly in any BMW it must be equipped with both a Combox and BMW Apps. Otherwise the white USB cable will not work directly -the OEM USB/AUX cable must be used.

Seems odd that my 6 year old car has no issues with the Apple OEM white cable. I don't have BMW Apps either.
