E60 / E61 (2004 - 2010)
BMW 5-Series E60 Sedan was first seen in the Unites States in the fall of 2003 with a 2004 Model Year designation. The E61 wagon followed shortly there after. The E60/E61 5 series is now available as a 528i, 528xi, 535i, 535xi, 550i and a 535xi sports wagon! -- View the E60 Wiki

Newbies Searching For Parts

So, new here and searching for parts? It goes like this:

1. and enter the last 7 digits in your vin. Find your Part Number and copy it.

2. Since PNPC is failing after no updates in 3 years, an alternative is Bit clunky, but it works to call up the PN on about 20 parts sites. Some work better than others.

3. Look for OEM parts -- parts from the manufacturer who sold it to BMW. For example, the primary OEM for BMW suspension parts is Lemfoerder (and for some, TRW). Coolant pumps are Pierburg and VDO (never the Chinese "equivalent"). And so on. This parts will cost 50-75% of the BMW branded equivalent. Good parts houses identify the OEM equivalent.

4. All parts are not the same quality! For example: suspension parts range from the great (Lemfoerder) to the probably OK (Febi) to the unknown (Dorman, Uro). If you don't buy BMW or OEM, do your research.

5. All sellers are not the same credibility. Buy from a name house (FCP, Autohaus, Pelican and so on). High risk from parts on Ebay or Amazon -- both are sketchy about filtering out fakes or cheap crap. Your only real protection is to buy from a place that has a name to protect in the community. I'm skeptical of autoparts shops, since their buyers don't understand BMW's and often sell off-branded parts. Ask for the manufacturer's brand. Rockauto sells many levels of some parts -- pick the OEM ones by name.

6. Then, all that said, look for the best price plus shipping and a warranty return.

Hope this helps if you're new to buying BMW parts.

Good luck.
