1998 540i Sport Tire Make

Does anyone recall the original tire manufacturer for the 1998 E39 540i Sport? Unfortunately, the original tire brochure did not survive with the paperwork. It currently has Michelin 235/45ZR-17s, but they are now 10 years old, and I would like to stick to the same brand as originally supplied with the car.

(And yes, I did a search before asking and found ZIP.)

BMW did not favor just one supplier. I have always had the best luck with Michelin tires. Pick a current performance model and you won't go wrong.

You might want to consider all-season performance tires, since you do get some winter weather.

Michelin PS4S, AS3+ and Continental DWS 06 are all fantastic high end tires to match these cars.

Yes it was Dunlop also on my 2001 540 M-Sport in staggered sizes. I forget the tire model, but I believe it was still the SP2000. I should go check my unused spare....
To the OP, I don't believe they have been manufactured in a decade...they were a summer tire.

Correct. The spare in my trunk from Canadian Build 1998 540iA is Dunlop Sp2000 235/45/17.

Terrible tires.

I since replaced them with Conti DWS when they 1st came out. Night and Day difference. Almost time for a new set and will probably go with the successor, DWS06

Thanks. I tend to favor Contis myself.

I'd buy the best tire your wallet can afford. Keep in mind there is a balance between tread wear and longevity.

Is any tire manufacture still selling the same tire with the same compound, tread pattern, and brand name that they were 20 years ago? So much has changed in tire technology over the last 2 decades...I'd be leary of using a tire with the same technology from 1998 in 2019. Just sayin'.
