I'm really on the fence for what we should do on Sunday.

I'm not even sure where I'll be sleeping Friday or Saturday night lol

I've got my room in Englishtown through Sunday night but I'll change it as needed depending on the plan.

I booked a room at the Colonade Motel for Friday and Saturday night and I am still looking for some one to split it with. The total after taxes came to $158.70, so we would each have to pay $79.35.

The insurance company stupidity continues. I just started digging through their comps and the second one I looked at is not even a Camry . They put a Toyota Solara in the comps which is sort of based on a Camry, but god forbid I try to use a 5th gen Camry that is not a 02 .

Alex, you're looking for logic in their selection process. The only logic applied in this is whatever it takes to pay you the lowest value for your car.

Alex, it pains me to read about your insurance experience so far. It sucks so much dealing with them. Just be persistent, trust your facts, and ALWAYS triple check their findings and facts. Always.

Eventually I beat down (figuratively, not literally, although it was close) the adjuster and she paid something fair. It took a lot of research, phone calls, emails, and calling them out on bad comps. They will deny any comp you find that isn't the exact year and from a dealer. It's stupid, but you have to learn to use their rules to your advantage .

You can also recoup some extra cash if you ask them to waive the salvage fee, which they did for me.

Well, generally the Solara sold for more than a Camry so score one in your favor on that one!
Did you ask about loss of use compensation yet? It there's rental car coverage in your policy and you didn't get a rental car you're usually entitled to get paid for loss of use at the daily rental car reimbursement rate.

Expect this Solara is beat to sh!t and after their stupid adjustment one of lowest valued cars on the list.
I have the rental car thing, but they know I have been driving the Camry. I have not had my daily argument with the insurance guy yet, but I will let you know how it goes.

The drivable definition is not a question of whether the car will move under it's own power or not. If any safety item such as a headlight, or turn light assembly is broken and non-functional then it's not in "drivable" condition. Good luck on this round!

Man I must say I'd expect things to be much smoother in a high competition environment like the USA....Honestly here if you have let's say 2 cars and a home cover at a single company they wouldn't dare cause you a hassle in fear of losing the account to a competitor.... When I got the ///M3 my insurance company didn't want to insure it and I literally called a customer of mine who is an insurance company owner and moved all three cars to his company before I walked out of the door of the first company that had denied me.

I just had my daily round with the insurance company. They will only pay a rental company directly for me to rent a car, so that is of no use to me. My new target is the $965 I am losing on every car because of "Comparable Vehicle condition adjustment". My car was rated normal condition in every category so it should neither lose or gain value. However just because the other cars are be sold at a dealership they all instantly gain $965 in value for "above average condition" regardless of what condition they are in. By the insurance company's logic (or lack there of) the beat to sh!t Solara's torn up seats are in $965 worth of better condition than my Camry's non-torn seats .

In better news, I won the radio and key-less argument, so they tossed in another $200. Only $500 more to go.

I believe I am dealing with Utica National Insurance Group now. My local insurance company is Naccarato and then they farm out the actual insuring to someone else. The company actual insuring me is about as consistent as mash potatoes mashed by a baby for two seconds equipped only with a rattle.

Yeah, your local is nothing but an insurance broker, and the UNIG is an umbrella representing many underwriters, so it's no telling who you are actually insured by. Dealing with insurance companies (ANY insurance company and insuring anything, not just cars) is like dealing with greased snakes. Unpleasant, nasty, and always the threat of something you do or say turning around and biting you. I have little use for, nor anything good to say about insurance companies. I've been screwed over too many times.

There's not the competition here one would think from watching all our insurance company TV commercials. Most every state has an insurance commission that's chartered to assure the insurance companies adhere to the statutes, but the insurance companies lobby the legislatures very heavily and the statutes tend to favor the insurance companies. Auto insurance in particular is a chaotic mess.

So you've dealt with our insurance industry before?

All this talk about car insurance made me think of one of my pet peeves (Oh, no, here we go again...)

Car insurance commercials. Particularly the ones advertizing either 'accident forgiveness' or 'new car replacement'.. You know, the ones that use the Statue of Liberty in the background. Some of the most idiotic arguments about an insurance company refusing to pay full (NEW) value on a wrecked car when it hasn't even had it's first oil change. No kidding, Sherlock, it's called depreciation. Or the one where the person does all this research before buying their dream car and then drives it into a tree, and the insurance company raises their rates. Their line "maybe you should have researched your insurance company?". I say, maybe you should have learned how to drive, you dingbat.

Rant over. Discuss if you like.

Ken, to say you were screwed over is an understatement. Related note: how is your wife doing? Last time I was around, I heard she was recovering well from the surgery.

Additionally, glad to see you still in red.

Exactly! Generally you do get protection from TOTAL loss but rarely are you made whole in the settlement unless you purchase a policy that specifically provides that and pay the additional premiums.

She plateaued after 6 months of rehab. The nerve damage to her knee (from the original accident in 2009) couldn't be corrected, so she's still in pain all the time. Mechanically her knee is perfect.

I actually got "redder" a couple weeks ago. I now moderate the New Member Introduction forum, too, which consists of towing questions to their appropriate forum when the newbies post questions there instead of the forum where they'd get help. The Intro forum has a big header announcing "No questions, just introductions".....so we 'only' get about 20 first-time-poster questions plopped there per day. Tim was spending all his time moving postings, so a few of us mods volunteered to help providing a towing service.
