My e36 takes so much time, money, and heartache I don't have enough of any of it to spare for anything else. Besides baking. I guess that works, huh? Oh, and driving. And car shows. But that's all pretty much combined with Ashlyn. My art too, but haven't been doing that much lately, just what's needed with the car and the model car.

i have the e36, plus 2 older bmw's (89 750iL, and the soon to be stepmonster's 88 535i) to keep me busy with tinkering, but i work in clay, sketch, paint, and create whatever stuff i can imagine with whatever i have at hand when the mood so hits me. here are some puppets i am working on. the two headed guy will have one wingtip and one tennis shoe, both black and white when i get him completed. the red one will get a set of pearls and maybe a bag as well (not sure yet, as they don't have 'arms')

some samples of the sketches,

Awwwww those are so cute!!!! Any pictures of the sculptures? Most of mine got destroyed on an ill-fated move to Florida a couple years back, unfortunately. Since we're sharing pics, here's some of my stuff (it's all pretty old, but it's what I have on my laptop):

http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/a...rk/dancers.jpg

http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/a...bonypencil.jpg

http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/a...cksacrylic.jpg

http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/a...work/hand1.jpg

http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/a...resketches.jpg

^The face with the spikes coming out of it I did in clay, but it was smashed to pieces in that move and I haven't redone it yet.

Wow, the picture quality on those really really sucks.

Beer is disgusting.

I used to do a lot of biking, but some A-hole stole my bike right off the back of my car at the end of last semester. Now my leisure time is spent rock climbing and doing stuff with metal including, but not limited too, blacksmithing, raising vessels, and casting softer metals such as aluminum and brass. I am hoping to be able to cast iron and steel in the near future, but that would require a lot more than the $50 I have in my current foundry set up.

This was a 4" copper water pipe from an old dorm that was demolished. I raised it into a 1.6 liter water bottle.

Here I'm forging a knife out of a railroad spike, heated in a charcoal forge with "forced induction" in the form of a pair of bellows I made from an old door and an inner tube, using a chunk of railroad track as an anvil, and using possibly the worst cast hammer ever created.

This is about 6 pounds of molten aluminum.

Besides the E36 for however long I have it for..

I got a job working at a company making aerospace/aeronautical parts for the government. I skateboard, snowboard, and party ALOT about every weekend. That's probably why I'm not on that much on the weekends. And during weekdays I'm either working or school or gf.

Extremely good beer i.e Bells, Blue Point, Avery, Victory, Arrogant Bastard, Racer 5, Small Craft Warning to name a few. Just about to crack a growler of Blue Point Toasted Lager straight from the brewery.

When I'm not liquored up, I am training for and racing Ironman distance triathlons.

I race a full carbon Specialized S-Works Transition with full Sram Red, BlackDog Aero bars, Cobb V-Flow Max seat and Zipp 404s. Extremely slippery. However, my mainstay is a Carbon/titanium Seven Cycles Odonata that has been ridden everywhere. Conservatively, I have about 30,000 miles on this trusty steed.

I also love Baseball. Played four years at Columbia University. Roar Lion Roar!

miles, i dig the fact that you made your own foundry. what a funky thing to do. aside from a few blacksmiths who do wrought iron work for craft fairs and such, i haven't known of anyone that has a foundry.

no, i correct myself. one of my customers does vintage car restoration. he's got a few model t's that he will make castings for in a crucible (?iirc, that's what they are called, right?) but i thought he called it a smelter. so maybe close, but not quite?? still, working with molten metal is amazing stuff.

i've been around several glass artists who work with molten glass, so i'm familiar with the heat factor. i've even blown glass before. it's like blowing honey bubbles through a heavy metal straw. (apparently the key is steady pressure, not the force of pressure)

i'm curious about polymer casting. i wish to try to make some badges for the 3's side mouldings. i don't want to rock an 'm3' logo. i know a few artists that work in this medium, i just haven't met up with them yet to discuss this with them and see what may work for my ideas. (i'll keeo you posted on this should it pan out)

anyway, i like this thread.
