Yearly maintenance costs?

Hello all,

I am in the look out for a 2011 BMW Z4 sDrive30i and was able to find a white one with 85,000. Now my question is to people owning Z4's what they spend yearly on maintenance. Just trying to get as much data as possible from other Z4 owners to make my decision on buying this particular Z4. The last thing I want is to not be able to afford the maintenance on it.

Thank you all in advanced!

P.S. If anyone knows of a Z4 for sale let me know please!

Iím glad youíre asking this question. Buying the car is just the start. So, maintained by you or a shop? BMW maintenance intervals or upgraded? Costs are quite different based on how you go.
Since it looks like youíre new to BMW you should know that they have a nonexistent maintenance routine when it comes to coolant, tranny fluid, power steering fluid, differential oil. These are all considered lifetime fills. That is, when the part fails, you reached its lifetime and you get to buy a new one. If youíre in this car for the long haul, I will tell you what Iíd do (youíll get many different opinions on this. All I can tell you is that this is my comfort level). If youíre keeping this car for 2 years, you can be nice and maintain it for the next owner so this beautiful car stays on the road.

Motor oil 5k
Manual Tranny oil, diff oil, power steering fluid, air filter 30k
Auto tranny oil, spark plugs (for your nonturbo engine) 60k
Brake fluid 1 year
Coolant 2 years
Bottle of fuel injector cleaner 5K
I do all this work myself so cost is a minimum per year. Otherwise, prob between $500-$1500 depending on what you need that year. Factor in 4 brake pads/rotors, and itíll about $1200 more if you have someone do it for you.

Depends on annual mileage. Is it a year round car or a 6-7 month car? The first answer is a good guideline although I think you can probably go 2 years between brake fluid flushes. Mine is a summer car so I go 2 seasons between oil changes and even then I'm nowhere close to the BMW 12-15,000 mile interval. You'll pay a 25-50% premium at the dealer vs an independant shop.

My yearly maintenance bill runs around $160.00. That is for 2 oil changes, that I do myself. You might also want to look at an extended warranty if one is available. Also see if you can find a CPO Certified Z4. Good luck with your hunt.

I budgeted 2K a year in maintenance and repairs on my previous bimmer, an e92. I have extended warranty now so my maintenance is only a few hundred bucks now but I still budget the 2K just in case
