Why is it so difficult to find a decent Z4?

Two months ago I began my quest to buy a Z4 thinking I would be driving it by now. The local BMW dealer was about as helpful as a chocolate radiator and even though I specified a 3.5 he repeatedly offered me the 3.0i he had just taken in part ex. The local Volvo dealer was more helpful than the BMW dealer.

During my search I have driven in excess of 380 miles and looked at 11 Z4's and to be honest I wouldn't have bought them if they had been 300 fiat uno's.

Eventually perseverance paid off and I found a beutifull 2014 Z4 3.5is that I take delivery of on Sunday. To say the least the BMW salesman at my local BMW dealer was less than happy when I said I had found one and to stop trying to sell me his 3.0i. He just said "well that's that then" and put the phone down on me.

Anyway I can't wait until Sunday!!!!

They are relatively easy to find in the US. Just use the BMWUSA search tool. From what I have read, Z4s have always been more expensive in the UK and therefore, scarce. When buying CPO, I have bought two different Z4s without driving them from Florida and Maryland - both over 1000 miles from me. Local dealers are usually a waste of time unless you get lucky. I bought one CPO in person from a BMW dealer in Wichita Falls, TX (who knew they even had a dealer there!!) about 100 miles away. Glad your patience paid off.

I found mine on Autotraders.com about 2-1/2 years ago. Had to drive to Cincy to pick it up but not a bad drive, only about 400 miles one way.

Here in the UK it would appear to me that its easier to find the holy grail than a decent well looked after Z4.

After a slight delay I arrived home with my new baby. The 320 mile trip back was a great chance to get used to the car and I am completely sold on it. A few niggling problems like DAB radio stations keep cutting out and I get the "no signal" indication on the screen. Playing music from my phone over Bluetooth is a bit hit and miss to say the least with the miss being the majority result. The only other problem I have is that I can't seem to stay out of it.

She is beautiful. I really like the rim's. Mine has these rim's and they really set the car off. They also show off the disc brake's well. Enjoy !

We know the feeling.

It's the love of man for the machine. And in case of the Z4 it's not only justifiable, but unavoidable.

Enjoy it. She's a beauty.

35i's are not as easy to find in Europe as in the USA, that's for sure.. Overhere 35i and especially 35is is topend with most models sold being 23i's or the later lowerend 4 cylinder models (18i and 20i), in the USA the 28i and 30i were the lowest entry-level models with the 35i almost being the regular model because of the relativly small price-gap and the 35is being the topend model.. I really envy the Americans for getting the top-end models so relativly cheap..

According to numbers I gleaned from the DVLA there are only 98 registered BMW e89 3.5is Z4's in the UK. Two of them are on SWORN's so there are just 96 alive and well on the UK roads? In one way that's very sad but in another way YIPPEE! because I'm one of the lucky 96?

Very lucky.. It's also in the best colour Space Grey metallic I think right? Almost impossible to find the perfect spec car when there's not that many arround, even when budget is not really a problem..

Saw this today. If I didn't have one already, I would be driving to Wichita Falls to buy it. $12,000 off MSRP! Not a big fan of the black interior, but this is a screaming deal.

Life in Texas is good. I bought one of my e85s from this dealership CPO.

I put in a search into CarMax.com for mine with all of my specific requirements. Took a couple of months but the perfect Z4 popped up one day. I had it transferred from Las Vegas to Atlanta. That was a year ago and, not a day goes by that I don't say that I love that car!

Funny I am looking at doing that same transfer but in reverse. Actually all the way to Hawaii!

The problem is not so much finding them but with the finished product being anything like the sellers description?

The terms: Like new, excellent condition, immaculate condition, are definitions that vary in real life so much that I even started to believe that 50,000 miles was low mileage for a two year old car.

However when you finally find "THE HOLY GRAIL" it makes it all worth while and knowing what I know now about my Z4 35is I would willingly go through the pain all over again.

The elusive E89

I have the same exact problem: I cant stay out of it! I live in Cleveland and I rarely see them--the apparent exclusivity just adds to the wonderfulness of the car, right? I've begun keeping track, and the most Z3/Z4s I've seen in any given month is 25. And I get a wave or from any one I see.
