It's up to you whether or not you use the Navigation enough to justify it. You can go to the dealer or get maps aftermarket. If you get maps outside of the dealership, you need an FSC code for your specific car to get this done.

I got my FSC code here and used torrent to download the 2017 map.

There are several sources on this forum for map updates. These include both the update itself and the necessary FSC code. Here is a link for who I used for my last update:

I would suggest it depends where you live, or where you want to drive to.
If you want Nav to find the odd place in your own city, you are probably fine keeping the nav as is.
If you have lots of highway construction near your city, or plan to travel far distances, then an upgrade would be beneficial.

As for the process, you can DIY for the least expensive, (buy cables and download software, but you must be tech savvy)
or you can go through a 3rd party that will provide instructions or remote in to help out... or for the most expensive go to the dealer.

I am hoping for BMW to upgrade its whole map visualization

It's relatively "easy" except the USB port in the glove box is a pain to get to ... there are several cooperative forum members who can get you access to the necessary files and the required FSC all for a nominal fee that is considerably less than that charged by a dealer. You will need USB flash drives to use in the process.
