F15 model year changes

Hi, I'm interested in buying an F15 X5 M and would like to know the detailed changes introduced for each model year, 2014-2018. I couldn't find this summary anywhere.

Is there anything else I should know about the F15 X5 M model?

BMW does not do noticeable annual changes. An F15 is an F15, not a 2019 F15.

Surely there were minor updates between the model years, eg better tech. Where can I find a list so I know if I want a 2016 vs 2017 model, for instance?

Surely there are not.

Oh ok, I see now in doing a bit more research. This post explains it well: https://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...7&postcount=12. There aren't substantial changes in the first few model years, then a facelift ("LCI") around year 5. Which would be a 2018.

Thanks!

One more naive question:

This page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_X5#X5_M_Models says the F15 X5 M was produced between 2015–2018.

Was the 2018 model F15 or G05? Also, was there no 2019 BMW X5 M?

IIRC, there was indeed an infotainment upgrade, the major feature of which is the touch screen. 2014, 2015, 2016 (not sure about 2017) do NOT have the touch screen.

Actually, correction: my 2016 does not have it. Looks like they added it later that same year:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IDrive

I recalled having just missed it.

I picked up a cpo 17 f15 in December as I did my little research as well and from what I gathered only differences were from 16-17 where they added touch screen ,idrive 6 from 5 and wireless CarPlay and I believe that’s when they also started offering blacked out wheels and wireless charging could be more but that was all I gathered

Doug, while there are not major changes there are changes to the mix and match of option packages regularly. As an example, all F15s from MY18 have the sport transmission which includes the paddle shifters and they include the trapezoidal exhaust tips. There are also differences with what is an is not included in things like Driver's assist and comfort access.

There are some stickies at the top which outline some of the optional package offerings for each model year.

Right. Forgot that one. I had trapezoidal tips anyways because the 40e and the diplomat/police X5's came with my trapezoid exhaust tips. It used to be a dead-simple way to identify the 40e... until it wasn't. Personally, I've always really liked my trapezoidal tips. But that's a matter of taste.

If it is really the X5M model you're seeking which is based off the f15 X5 chassis...then you should be searching for the BMW f85 X5M. This is probably the reason the model year run is confusing you.

The new g05 X5 is the next generation BMW X5 which debuted in 2019. The X5M model has a delayed introduction which is why there's no 2019 model year. I haven't seen anything given as to what the G chassis model will be for the next gen X5M

The new 2020 X5M based off the G05 X5 is the F95. Here's a link to a thread about the new F95 (X5M) & F96 (X6M) as well as the "competition" models: https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1596473

If your looking for sweet X5 that's not the full blown X5M you could save a few bucks and get its cousin the F15 X5 xDrive 5.0i M Sport. This bad boy comes with a 4.4L Twin Turbo V8 pushing out 445hp and 480lb of Torque.

I bought a 2016 with 29,000 miles on it last October and it's been a fantastic vehicle. Knock on wood I haven't had a single issue in the last 12,000 miles.

It's a real "sleeper" with more HP then most people will ever need. The only way that you can tell its a beast is the small door print on the bottom of the doors that have 5.0i. The M Sport package will give you the more aggressive look you. Throw that bad boy into sport mode, slap the shifter into sport and drive off into the sunset.
