Replacing OEM CD/head unit with OEM unit

Hi all,

I could not search for solution. My current CD/head unit is broken . Fortunately, I could get an OEM CD/head unit (almost new) from a local store. Do you think it would be a direct plug and play, or do I need to take it to the dealership for reprogramming?

Thanks.

Part numbers off the CD/head Unit label would help for direct compatibility and more accurate answer

Genrally DSP to Non-DSP or Nav or vice versa requires INPA reprogramming.

If it's just the CD player that is not working, you may be able to do an Aux In conversion and just use your Smartphone or external headphone output of any MP3 Player since most people don't even buy/play CDs anymore.

Do a search here or on Google for "E39 CD Aux In" Conversion

My whole unit (MID and the CD player) is broken. I still prefer the OEM look, so I will find a replacement using the part number you suggested. Most of the time, I only listen to the radio such as the NPR station. Thanks again CSMBlack-540i.

Have a good weekend everyone!

Seems a bit strange they are not working, you checked the fuses? Is your info when pressing the end of the stalk working?
Do you have a code reader?

The unit stopped working one month ago. I did not have time to check it, until now. Unfortunately, I don't have a code reader. Luckily, another E39 user around my area is selling his like new unit. That's why I wonder whether I could just swap it.

Thanks for asking 528iAut.

In your glove compartment you will see there are three fuses for the MID and the radio I think, check those first.
