Ebay or a local sorce would be the cheapest the only problem is most shops will want to source out a replacement them selves so they can make some money on markup. Swapping out the trans on a 528i is one of the easiest to complete. The only not so common tools required are inverted torx sockets and 19mm flare nut wrench. And of course a metric set of sockets , wrenchs and some persistence. Why do you think you need a trans?

Why don't you have the codes read instead of guessing. Could be something simple.
