No steering stalk controls etc. after steering wheel retrofit

New to Bimmerfest. Please can anyone advise. I swapped my 2011 X3 F25 standard steering wheel for an M Sport with paddles after disconnecting battery negative. Not worried about having paddles working just wanted chunkier wheel. I also disconnected the connectors from the back of the clock spring to see where to run wires if I did want to connect paddles and looked for junction in main box in engine bay but couldn't identify it from the articles I had read. Connected everything back without coding anything and the front wipers started and wont turn off unless I lock the car and no function from horn, no steering wheel button lights and no function from any steering buttons or stalk controls. Warning says "Imminent failure of wipers" or something similar and to contact local garage! I removed M Sport wheel and refitted my original wheel and airbag and still the same symptoms even on the original wheel. Now i cant drive the car because the wipers keep going.
Can anyone please help as I'm a bit stuck without the car.
Many thanks in advance.
Tony
