Trunk won't Lock E46

Hi Everyone, I've looked in the forums, didn't find what I was looking for, trying here. I have a 2000 323i 4 door, and just very recently the trunk latch won't catch / shut / lock. No explanation. Removing kids back packs out of trunk , then latch won't close. This also obviously is running my battery down as the interior trunk lights stay on.

Any ideas would be gratefully appreciated!

Cheers!

I know itís basic. But have you tried locking and unlocking with the fob. Try hitting the trunk button in the driver footwell. Tried sticking the key in the trunk and unlocking?

Lastly you can check the physical latch try and move it or grease it.

You can also search for E46 trunk harness threads. The wires wear through and cause issues.

Hey Thanks for this. Sorry should have mentioned this before. yes tried the fob, it moves the locking piece, but not as much. There's no trunk release on the inside of the vehicle - weird, I know - and also tried the key. it's like the locking claw just doesnt stick around the post set in the lower side of the trunk mechanism. Very weird and frustrating.

It sounds like the latch is out of adjustment. Or the latch mechanism is bad.
