Mein Auto: 5wagon
I have an excel of every part I purchased and replaced on my wagon and my wife's 525i. I do all the work so labor costs nothing.

So far, my wagon is sitting at $2219.60. My wife's 525i is currently sitting at $447.53. These are of course on top of cost of car, AND including any mod's as shown in the attached images. So not only maintenance.

I've had the wagon since around March of 2018 (So 1.5 years), and I purchased my wife's e39 in November of 2018 (10 months).

Not too costly, you just have to know where to source the parts and how to work on them.

EDIT: As you can see, I was a bit more meticulous with the documentation of parts on my wagon than my wife's e39 ..

I bought my 98 528i w/ the sport pkg and moon roof brand new for $45.000, paid $2500 in sales tax, and
over 22 yrs of use, I probably shelled out another $18,000 in bmw parts and shop fees. (not added is another $5000 for two sets of stagger bmw wheeels and tires).
so, if we spread out the total=$65,500 over 23 yrs, it averages out to~ $3000 / yr

Mein Auto: 2002 BMW 525i
I absolutely luv my 2002 525i. In terms of things done, redid the cooling system, replaced brake pads, touch up paint, new wheels and tyres, and most ofo the suspension system. Dossie is now 80K km and has essentially been a solid car. Is it better than current BMWs? Of course........

Mein Auto: E39 530i E70 X5
I'm on my second 530i. The first one was totalled when I got rear ended on the freeway 4 years ago. I picked this one up for $4,000 with 70,000 miles on it. I get 30MPG hwy as long as I keep it around 100MPH 80MPH or less drops it to 23. I've changed the oil twice and that's all the maintenance I've had to do so far this year. Insurance on it is less than any of my other vehicles I pay 230 a month for 4 vehicles with 2 teenage drivers. I think insurance is too subjective to the individual and more relative to personal factors more than the vehicle. Me personally I believe when it comes to value for the money I haven't found anything that compares. Classic style luxury and performance and parts and mods are abundant and relatively inexpensive for someone like me who does his own maintenance and repairs. By comparison I spent over $10,000 over the course of 12 years on My 99 Durango. In 4 years since buying my first BMW I've spent roughly 1500 on all 4 of mine (2 E39, an E90 and E70) combined. The biggest issue I've had is people wrecking into me.

Bought my e39 525i in 2004 and it is now 15 years old. My excel spreadsheet totals $14,920.80.
So almost exactly $1000 per year in parts, tires, batteries, oil, filters, etc.
Does not include my labor, gas, and insurance.
I think if I had to pay labor it would have been double or triple that amount.
