I have an appointment with my dealer and the regional BMW rep. next week on the 8th for my hesitation issue with my 528i. I will post the outcome after the meeting, which I am sure will be of interest to those with the 528, as currently there is no TSB from BMW to address this problem.
I'm not holding my breath in regards to any fix, though.

I have experienced acceleration delays on several occasions. Your description is spot on...you turn your wheel to change lanes, press the accelerator and NOTHING happens. Something even worse happened while driving my 335xi. I stepped on the accelerator while pulling out of a parking lot into an intersection and the car DIED, but this only happen one time. The SA told me the car needed to be reset and to call if the problem happened again. When I restarted the car in the intersection, that action reset the car. Very lucky that day.

Based on my experience with the 528i and 335xi, have any 528i's totally lost power when depressing the accelerator? By that I mean the car dies, stops dead in its tracks and has to be restarted.

Yes, please let us know. I'll go ahead and hold my breath for all 528 owners.

Been real busy lately. Sorry for the lapse in getting back here.

Unfortunately, my service department called to cancel my appointment with the BMW feild engineer the night before my appointment. He said the rep would not be in the area afterall and that they would let me know when he finally gets in the area and then re-schedule an appointment for me. So.....here I wait.
Sorry I don't have anything new to report on this issue.

I'll give 'em another week or so. If I haven't heard anything by then, you can bet your a$$ they will be hearing from me.
On a side note, I have noticed the hesitation problem improving somewhat. Maybe there is something to that adaptive system after all. I have been driving it like a raped ape when starting off from a dead stop. It still stumbles on occasion, but not as often as it used to. Before I would say it did it 75% of the time....now I would say it hesitates 40% of the time. I have about 3,000 miles on the car now.
With my luck, the damned thing will fix itself by the time I see the rep and come away looking like a nincompoop.

I just found this disappointing video on Youtube. It shows just how bad the thottle tip-in is against the Audi A6. Very sad.

Interesting. Appears that the lag off the line is considerably worse in the 535 than in the 528. 3 second delay before full power. I really don't think it's that bad in my car.
Not really sure though.

but apparently according to some dealerships (and forum members) that's how the car is designed to work...lol

+1 for me... i actually have to calculate and stomp AHEAD of when i really want to... and PRAY the situation i'm trying to get out of doesn't change to much... there have been a few times i changed lanes and hit the gas... and the guy behind me is on my ass thinking i cut him off and didn't speed up...

i'm going to try the reset procedure.. in the first post.

Also i'm in NJ and use BMW of Atlantic city... the Sales staff knows their stuff.. the service department.... not so much.. they suck big time you usually have to call BMWNA THEN take it there.

Is there any way to disable the "eficient dynamics" BS... the car is turning stuff off and on... is it putting the car in "limp" mode when moving slowly? so save gas... then you stomp on it and it takes that long to fire up? who knows? I've been in my friends prius and it almost seems like that kind of delay

Have the same dealer. I couldn't agree more with your assesment. Sales is very good. Service is very bad. I've gotten the "normal running characteristic of the car" line several times, only to take it to an independent shop and "miraculously" have the problem fixed. (they had the car for over a week for a vibration issue they couldn't solve.) I am waiting for an appointment with the area BMW feild engineer for the throttle delay issue, after I told the service guys I'm not accepting their line of B.S. anymore.

I am curious about your vibration issue. I have a very noticeable vibration in the center counsel some times. So much so I think that my phone is ringing in the cradle. I have the latest software fix and the issue still exists. I have noticed since the temps have gotten cooler in Dallas that the issue is not as pronounced when the AC is off. The car still has an issue. I am still disappointed in its performance. It seems to work fine some times and other times I have to bury the accelerator and wait and pray. I think the issue is random but I know there is a root cause that is mechanical. Whether it is AC load, ambient temp, software errors or something else. I still maintain that BMW has a serious safety issue here and a fundamental flaw in these cars. I am going to bring it in again and see what they say.

Mine was a tire / wheel balance issue. My vibration issue occurred between 65 and 75 m.p.h.
Both the sales staff and shop foreman agreed there was a vibration. They couldn't figure it out and gave me the "normal running characteristic" line. I knew it was a tire or wheel. They said they checked everything with the wheels and tires and all were good. Went to a tire shop and they fixed it in 40 minutes. (both shops had the same balancing equipment)
Not sure if any of that is related to your issue, though.

Thanks. Probably worth taking it to a good shop and having them done professionally. Time for a rotation anyway.

i'm going to call bmwna and tell them about my hesitation.. and also try and get latest map software for free ($400-600 cost to upgrade)... my routing is pretty crazy taking me 1/2 mile past my target just to loop around and come from other side of street... I'm going to take it on it's first road trip tomorrow... we'll see how it goes.

I just joined this infamous lag/throttle delay club after my first service appointment a few days ago. I told my SA and he's like dumbfounded, my car was fine until this latest software update. I'm pissed off!!

My 528i that I just got in ... built in September... does not seem near as bad as my first one, but it is still there on occasion.

For what it's worth, I experienced the dreaded lag with my 528i as many (most) others have. I figured it was tolerable since I absolutely love everything else about the car. Then about a week ago I realized that the lag had disappeared. I have done nothing different...didn't take it in for service or anything. The change happened at about the 1600 mile mark. So, while I can't explain it, I can tell you the lag is gone and the driving experience has improved. It's still a 528i, it's not a rocket, but it's noticeably better. Perhaps this offers some hope...

Manual tranny?

Does this delay happen in manual 5 series? It seems like a naive question but I just want to make sure. Thank you!
