E60 Sport Mode

I saw a video on youtube for E60 Sport Mode. I have a 528i and bought the electrical pins and a momentary switch online. For 15 bucks if it works it could be pretty cool.

Anyone else done this to their 5 series?

This is interesting... does this mean that all E60 has the sport mode standard but no way of activating it without the switch?

That is what I understood after reading on a few different sites and seeing this video. I plan to do the same thing and see how it goes. More response from the gas pedal would be awesome!

I've had the sport button on my 2010 E60 535i Sport auto transmission and I know exactly what the feeling is like when I press it.. The car transforms into a racing machine... everything is responsive..

I'm really curious if this would apply to my 2013 X5 35i

I think that this is an option to get more money from customer as BMW like to sell everything in options to make more money and I do not blame them.

i have the same 2010 535i w/M package. Is this button something different from just activating the DS mode?

So I got the parts and took apart the dash of my 528. I ran into a problem when I went to install the pins. There is a red wire already in slot 10. I am supposed to connect the switch to 8 and 10, but 10 had a red wire in it. I took the red wire out and gave it a try anyways with no luck.

I have my doubts that this mod is anything butt a placebo. I have driven E60s with sport mode and without sport mode, and I can tell you, there is more involved than a friggin switch. There's a reason I specifically looked for a 550 with Sports Auto Trans AND a Sport button. THere is a difference. But hey, if you want to try it, feel free, I have yet to see any hard numbers.

All it does is change the shifting, rpm range (keeps engine at a higher rpm) and the steering sensitivity.

Sport mode.
Tune up: when sport mode is activated, engine output and driving dynamics take on sportier qualities, letting you enjoy your BMW's dynamic character at its peak.

Depending on which BMW model you drive, the sport mode can be activated by a touch of the "Sport" button on the central console. Immediately, your BMW feels even more dynamic: the electronic control units switch to sportier settings, making the engine more responsive and the suspension stiffer.
This increase in sports-style characteristics is accompanied by a reduction in powered assistance for the steering at low and medium RPMs for more direct and immediate steering, giving you an even closer sense of the character of the road.
In vehicles with automatic transmission or the Sequential Manual Gearbox (SMG), activating the sport mode (also known as Driving Dynamic Control) shortens gearshift times and makes the gearshift characteristic even more dynamic.

That what I was thinking before I tried it on my manual 545i. A friend of mine who loves to drive my car whenever we go out together. he did not know anything about the switch. I let him drive the cat without the spot mode and than turns it on. Asked him if he feels any deference in performence and he's reaction was 'what did you do with this car man. It pick ups much faster'
I do not see changes in steering when the switch is on but car comes alive like giving him some sort of drugs. Probably it uses more gas though with spot on.

Probably quicker throttle response and in a auto quicker shifts and higher revs. This is all done by the ECU so a switch could very easily set the program change.Does anyone without sport mode have active steering and or active roll
stabilization?This would also be affected.

I have both active steering and dynamic drive system but as I sad I do not feel any chances in steering when in Sport except quicker exell. Maybe on auto tran it is deferent as I have manual.

Yep I have a 545i sport model and seems as though shifting into DS only effects the tranny.

I need to test sports mode on mine and compare it to DS mode. I've done it once and watched tachometer. In DS mode it keeps the low gear with higher RPMs. My wife's car doesn't have sports mode, though I would doubt acceleration would be any different from the sports mode. Though on hers the steering is more tight, more like it is on mine in sports mode. The biggest difference I've noticed between the two 550i's are the seats. Hers have comfort seats with dakota leather whereas mine are the same seats with nasca leather and ventilation option. My seats not nearly as soft as hers. Perhaps some sort of chassis was required to fit those fans. In her car I feel "important" with the wood trim whereas in mine with aluminum trim I want to drive fast (though I rarely do that).

This DOES NOT work. If 15 bucks would make the 528i fast, everybody would've done it.
It is just random wiring to throw a "SPORT" sign on the instrument cluster! Don't waste your time and money in getting this!
