SOS Malfunction Error. WHY??

Had the error come up a few times about a month ago and I would restart my car and it went away but it would come back after a few ours or days. Since a month ago it never came back on and now its back and this time its been about 3 days and is not going away at all. My radio and phone do not work. What causes this issues?? What does the dealer have to do to fix this? Thanks guys

Take it to the dealer, they have to reprogram it.

The SOS error came up last week on my '07 which hasn't had the BMW Assist active since 2013 when the CPO expired! It turns out that since I'm 2 months overdue for a brake fluid flush, the car is upset that it can't contact my dealer thru BMW Assist. When I pressed the SOS button, I got a recorded message informing me that if I renewed the lapsed Assist, I could get help!

But my radio still works, (don't have a phone paired with the car), so I don't know if your problem is similar.

If I were you, I'd contact the dealer.

Tom

I had a similar issue and it was only a blown fuse. I thought the fibre optic cable was goosed and feared the worst. Was one of the smaller sized fuses on the left hand side of the box.

My case was slightly different though - I'd had the CCC out and shorted something. From then on, the green light could be seen on the back of the connector block, but I received SOS warnings and had no radio/phone/idrive. Have you done some work on the HU? Have you EVER had the radio working whilst the SOS warnings were being displayed?

Hopefully yours is a straightforward fuse swap as well!

Sounds different to my fault then but you could still check the cheap things first. I believe my issue was down to the idrive being knocked out...screen, radio, bluetooth, everything that went through that was dead, plus general SOS and TPMS warnings in the binnacle. Changed a fuse, in approx location of fuse 55 on the following diagram (not mine - dunno what 77 is ringed for) and the whole centre console came back to life! Good luck.

What year is the car ?

What year is the car ?
Check the connections at the Mulf if you have one.
Be sure you have a good battery as a low one can cause
all kinds of phantom electronics fails.

my fuse set up is a bit different and I did not run into any burned out fuses. Been doing some other research and seems like everyone who has this SOS light is getting the TCU module replaced.

There is actually a great blog post and YouTube video explaining this in detail. They even have a pre-trimmed version of the MOST adapter now that comes ready to install out of the box.

The stock version bypass/loop requires you to carefully hack away at the plastic to get it to fit. I actually damaged my first unit trying to get it to fit.

Anyhow, here's the link: https://www.modsandprojects.com/bmw-...o-audio-error/
