F80/F82/F83 M3 and M4 (2015 - Current)
F80 BMW M3 sedan, F82 BMW M4 coupe and F83 M4 convertible forum. This 5th generation M3 and all new M4 features a 3.0 liter twin turbo engine (engine code S55) 425hp and 406lbs of torque! Heavy use of light weight materials makes this generation lighter and faster then the outgoing E9x M3.

Considering M over 340, daily driver

I have owned several BMWs over the years, my favorite being the 540 E39 m-sport with a 6-speed. Presently in a 328xi with the m-sport and automatic. This is a fine car if it wasn't for the super floaty suspension.

Would a M3 be way too stiff for me if I enjoyed my e39 suspension?

It looks like a fully equipped 340 M-sport with manual would be near $60,000. I should be able to find a low mileage 2016 M3 on the used or CPO market for only $5,000 more than the new 340. http://enthusiastauto.com/qsearch/?i...orm_display=51

My M hesitation is using it as a daily driver here in Michigan, sure i'll add a winter set of wheels and tires. I drive about 20k/year, and this seems like a bad decision just crushing the M car with this many miles.

How do the maintenance costs differ on the M, also how do they hold up mechanically compared to the F30 versions?

I appreciate your insight and reality checks,

For bad roads, you can't really use the 340 without hassle unless you swap out the RFTs. I live in the Bay Area and have 19" wheels on my 335 (tossed RFTs awhile ago) and I've still broken 5 wheels. You can order the M3/M4 with 18"" wheels, which are sort of cool anyway, and the adaptive suspension helps. My wheel repair guy tells me that virtually all cars with RFTs break wheels these days, and BMW/Audi/M-B are particularly bad.

For my NYC car I went from a 2007 335i with sport package to a 2015 M4 with M Adaptive suspension.

The M4 is a much better daily driver.

A fellow Michiganer will report in. First off, it's your decision to make and no one else, however I can see your reason for some varied input from others. I use my M4 as a DD for 8 mos a year. Have had it now for 13 mos and love it! 13,000 miles and counting. The GF bought my X1 that we share for four months during the winter. Separate set of wheels and snows for the X1. Needless to say it's wonderful in the winter. Even though I store the M4 during the winter, I have plenty of winter driving experience with RWD cars. Most notably two CTS-V's. 2006 and 2009. I ran the same wheels year round but mounted a full set (4) snows on both cars. Zero problems and both were fine in the winter. Neither sets of snows were RFT though. Hate the ride and shock absorption issues with RFTs. Nokians are my snow tire of choosing. I always carried a plug kit and 12 v tire in-flatter in the trunk. The key is dedicated snows, not M&S tires. Both Caddies were close to a 50/50 balance ratio, just as the M4. FYI: There are also plenty of M 3/4 owners on this site as well as others, (bimmerpost.com) that run four snows in the winter and are very happy with the outcome!

I have DD'd my M3 since it was a day old, 22000 miles in nearly 16 months. It works fine. But considering the line of questioning, just sounds to me a 340 with M sport suspension will be plenty.

Oh and ditch the run flat tires.
