G30 (2017 - Current)
The next generation 5 Series, chassis code G30, arrives at dealers in February 2017. Looking like a scaled down 7 Series and riding on the CLAR platform, the new 5 Series will have a focus on lightweight and sporty performance. Engines options will come from BMW's new B family for the 530 and 540 and a turbocharged V8 for the M550i. Read more about the 2017 5 Series

Proactive preconditioning

Just noticed proactive preconditioning on the connect app under activity tab, haven't tried it as the car in garage. Is this new feature?

NVM, it is just preprogram ventilation.

But in superhot Arizona...I love it on my 530e. After my car has been sitting in 100+ heat for five hours or so, I use the app to turn on the AC and by the time I get to my car, it is very comfortable (I do have a high quality nano tint and I use a windshield screen).

So...yes...the 530e is heavier and more ponderous but it does have its offsetting advantages.

I love it even here in drizzly grey UK!

Have it set to come on every morning and evening. It's great getting into a car which is already at your preferred temperature!

One of the best things about the 530e in my opinion...

Does preconditioning actually heat or cool the car on the 530E? It only turns on the fan on the regular models, presumably to exhaust hot air and replace it with cooler outside air.

Yes it does. It runs the HVAC off the hybrid battery. So on very hot days when I am going to use it, I make sure to save adequate battery capacity (use "Battery Control" setting).
