New member with 08 x5 with questions

Hello all, I have a 2008 BMW X5 with the 3.0 it occasionally smokes bad when started and always runs rough and dies when first started when the engine is warm. I have tried different things, and still have not fixed the issue. I came across the video that talked about fixing, or replacing the CCV. Does my engine have this?

Yes it has a CCV. It can be a source of smoke. Look up the diy YouTube videos. Also. Let us know what you have already tried. From memory (not fully sure) I think your CCV is part of the valve cover and either needs to be surgically removed or the valve cover replaced as well. I donít have your engine so someone who does will chime in.

Welcome to Bimmerfest, Jeff!

I moved this thread to the E70 forum (X5, 2007-2013) so you can get model-specific help.

FCP Euro or ECS or OEMBimmerParts for where to shop

how to google CCV replacement on BMW N52 and look for videos. If you are handy / decent shade tree guy, it;s in realm of doable, but if you can't fix a toilet leak, pay someone else to do it.

I'm sure I could do the repair as I have done extensive repairs before, (and remodeld whole houses) LOL I'm just unsure of the parts I need. I've replaced what I'm referring to as the PCV on the valve cover where you cut the old one off and glue the new one on. What I'm wanting to know as if there is a CCV that returns oil back to the pan on this engine? I don't seem to be able to find it, and I still have the same problems after replacing the PCV

THis kit should have all the parts for your car. The VCG is part of the puzzle...
