420d GC outside temperature oddity!

Hello all

I have replaced the outside/ambient temp sensor as the reading was quite peculiar. At the same time I had my garage clear any fault codes. Unfortunately, replacing the sensor has not solved the problem of very inaccurate readings displayed on the dash - any idea where to start?

Thanks

Are readings slow to change? Or something else?

No, it can be 28C outside and the outside temp warning beep comes on and says it's -2.5C! Completely random readings.

And I also meant to say that the reading for outside temperature can look about right, and then suddenly change.....

I wonder if there is a poor connection, abraded wire, bad ground, etc.

The sensor's output is current that must be interpreted and computer display. Many subtler causes than a bad connection. "Ooh, look! I have a ball-and-chain, maybe it broke."
