2012 650i air conditioning fan issue

hello...A/C is blowing cold but the fan will slow down and turn off and then about 20 sec later it will ramp back on. this will repeat itself after about a minute or two. any thoughts on this, sound familiar?

not a daily driver car and only has 28k...
any help on this would be much appreciated...thank you

Have tried it in both hot and cold positions, I appreciate putting heat in the car would be no fun but you could see how the fan reacts??? Have you any check control messages???

Michael, thanks for the reply, haven't tried the heat but will give it a shot, not sure i have ever used the heat as I live in Florida but will give it go to see if that changes any behavior. I did turn of the a/c and it did the same thing. not sure what the relationship of the fan is to the a/c & compressor or if it is independent.
thank you again..

There is a complete set of interactions with the Climate system, could also be you are low on coolant given as you said you live in Florida (having never used the heater sometimes a quick recycling helps long term) have you had the system recharged at any time?? it should be done every 4 years in average climate, in your hot climate perhaps 2-3 years. If I remember correctly low A/C coolant can cause issues, it is amazing how many people never think of it in terms of maintenance.

Michael.
I do take the car in annually to the BMW dealer for service, not sure if A/C coolant is part of their inspection but I am fairly certain that this has not come up as something they added during these inspections. thanks for your input...

The A/C at least here in the UK is not included in any servicing, but they do offer a separate service, however many don't bother as I said some think it goes on forever, in fact many turn it off thinking they can save fuel, they don't realise that not using the A/C leads to very expensive repairs, but hey they save 2 mpg !!!!!

Had this happen on my F10 535.. First replaced the resistor on the blower motor under the hood ($50) as this is the most common cause, did not fix. Then replaced the blower motor ($150) and that fixed it. Took me perhaps 2.5 hours first time to get blower motor asssembly out. 2nd time was the charm perhaps 1 hour once I knew my way around the parts under the hood. See my post in F10 on tricks to speed up the process or pm me

Paul
