How to code new key fob?

I have a 2013 328i F30. We lost the only key we had and ordered a new one from the dealer. This vehicle does not have comfort access. The dealer said to hold the key up to steering column where the key sign is indicated and try starting the car. He said if it doesn't start we may have to tow it in for them to program the new key that we just spend $450 on. They want an additional $150 to code the new key plus the towing charges we will incur. Is there anything we can do to program from home? I have tried many ideas from online searches, but none are working. Also, we do not have a place to insert the key fob only the sign on the steering column.

Holding the key up did it for me. Haven't programmed the comfort access yet. Still hoping to find my original keys.

I dont even think the dealerships can code the key to the VIN. The new key fob has to be ordered from BMW with that VIN attached and its made specifically for the car. Unless something changed recently.
