Post The same old question! which one?

Guys,
I'm looking at 3 X5's all at one dealer.

X5 35i M-Sport 110K $20K
X5 50i M-Sport 70K $22K
X5 35d. 65K. $23K

My preference is the 50i because of the price and mileage. I'm not concerned about fuel mileage but I am concerned about reliability and maintenance costs. So I've really decided against the 35d but realize it may be the best of the 3 but I'm stuck on the M sport package as a necessity.

Comments appreciated.

John

You already have enough info available to you in terms of reliability and you already narrowed your preference down as M-Sport 50i - so go for it.

A: The one with a clean, dealer-maintained Carfax and seats you don't hate.

Personally, I'd take the diesel. But no amount of torque will make up for seating that you grow to hate, or gremlins you can't get rid of.

Depends on the MY, but even then the 35d is just at break-in mileage...

Your main concern is reliability and maintenance costs but you chosen most unreliable and costly to maintain model out of 3...do your dd on N63 compared to N57 and N55. If Msport, reliability and maintenance cost matter you should go with 35d and later 35i IMO.

I'm hoping that the newer N63TU engine proves to be more reliable than the N63.
It will not be a DD and only needed occasionally. I'm hoping that as long as it's not driven like I stole it will prove it to be more reliable.
I pulled the trigger on the 50i because of mileage and options. I'll let you know when I first meet the dreaded yellow check engine light.

Unfortunately the 35d is rarely seen with the M sport package and the 35i was just too mileage to be in the same price range.

Thanks for all the input.

BMWs actually survive better if they driven like they were stolen. This is certainly true for our two 'ds' and the ///M Roadster.

My 2014 50i has 82K miles with no problems. None. Dealer maintained. Mileage is 21.9 overall (almost all highway). I really enjoy the car and the performance of the V8.
