I do not really consider a half ton truck light duty but instead something like a Ranger(which long ago could be had with a diesel here). With that said there have been rumblings in the past about the Big 3 bringing half ton diesels to the market and they never do. I know Ford has gotten really close a few time and canned the idea each time. I seem to recall Toyota saying they would bring one over but never did. I have read about an Indian made truck that is diesel and trying to get into the States. It might be smaller than a half ton but as I recall the entire vehicle is extremely simplistic and not going to have wide market appeal because of that.

What is Toyota now saying they will bring? Also what has Hyundai said because I recall reading a statement from their top US exec specifically saying they would not bring a diesel Sonata here. Because the DEF systems add too much cost in comparisons to what existing variations of the car go for.

For over a year I've told people that if the VW Amarok was sold here, I'd be first in line to buy it. I've played with the German VW configurator (the pickup is built in South America), got it to the specs I wanted for around €35k. And the diesel gets around 7,4 l/100km combined.

I am a BMW guy but I think if VW offers Routan 2.0L TDI with manual transmission as an option, it will be a hot seller. A lot of people will consider buying a family minivan that easy makes 40+ MPG, don't you think so?

How much of a Routon is not Chrysler but actually VW? I'd be surprised if a diesel shows up in one anytime soon.

If I wanted a diesel minivan then I'd look at the ever so confused MBZ R-class since seems to be the only option.

I just did some looking and appears a Routon does not even come with a VW engine/transmission. I thought they did though.

Nope, just 15% more $$$ than a Chrysler CrappyWagon...

Instead of this model they want to shove us a Chevy van as VW in USA

http://green.autoblog.com/2010/07/02...-42-8-mpg-u-s/

Another BMW not sold in USA. It won a competition for one of the most efficient cars with it's 62MPG!!!

Now that the legal issues are over, Mahindra may offer their diesel pick up in the US.

I saw that but was not impressed with the mileage figures from the Mahindra pick up. If I had to drive something that ugly I would have to get at least 35 mpg!

mahindra wont ever sell in the us given the poor publicity and given poor product. it looks like it hopped out of the early 90s, like an ford ranger but worse. maybe if they change both name and product...

Haha, I agree. It's a hideous car with a cheap interior. Looks like they fixed the interior with LCI

But I agree that I applaud MB for finally bringing it. This engine will go into the C class too. This means BMW will have to get their **** together, or I will jump ship to Audi/MB

It's happening. I see so many more diesel MLs, X5s, Touraregs, Q7s than I did a couple years ago. Hell, every Jetta around here is almost always a TDI. Hopefully this means more diesels for US

I guess Audi will be next with Q5 2.0 TDI
and then finally I predict BMW will possibly bring X3 xdrive28d or X1 xdrive28d with 4cyl twin-turbo oil burner
Q5 is getting the 3.0TDI. Already announced. Coming to the US market with the facelift with the Q5 Hybrid

Q5, A6, and A8 are all getting the 3.0TDI within 12-24 months

Audi and MB are super serious about diesels in the US market while BMW is ****ing around

Q5 3.0 TDI is a waste, same if they make X3 35D, the engines are too powerful and MPGs are not that great...

Q5 2.0 TDI or X3 28D with 2L twin-turbo diesel with manual option will be much better, enough power with superior MPGs

The VW 2.0 TDI's don't need the urea system either! Unless that changes (thanks CARB!) That is one less thing to go wrong.

Passat has and needs it, because of the added weight of the car adding more load to the engine. That supposedly is why the Passat gets better mpg than a Jetta even though same engines and Passat is a bigger car.

True that. Even 2013 VW TDI Beetle is officially coming to US. That might be the closest thing a few ( like 30 of us) here craving for - manual diesel wagon. Ha !

If you want a manual diesel wagon then why not just get the TDI Jetta Wagon? Or the Audi A3 if you just want a more expensive Jetta with a little less interior space but nice quality parts.

I have owned many Bugs over the years and this latest one actually lacks design appeal to me in the looks department.

@ Aaron & Autounion

That is my weak attempt at sarcasm.

BTW, this isn't even funny anymore. We are officially receiving 2013 Porsche Cayenne Diesel.

I was but in all seriousness I thought the Porsche version was very different. Seem to remember that being stressed way back when they first started doing their SUV.
