Post Blinking clown nose, but no alarm??

I've been trying to read up on and troubleshoot/confirm the presence of an alarm on my 99 328i, but so far haven't heard an alarm out of it. I've locked the the car with the key remote, held the trunk button to trigger the alarm, and the outcome was only the more rapid/continual flashing of the close nose indicator...

I'm basically trying to trigger the audible alarm- still have not taken the box molding off the headliner where the motion sensor should be. (Have not tested for motion sensor either)

Any other thoughts would be appreciated!

Thanks

The previous owner had that option installed for lock confirmation. The parking lights flash and then the clown nose will blink continuously when the car is locked. I asked the dealer to program mine as a deterrent, nobody pays attention to an alarm these days anyway.

My thoughts are you do not have an alarm.

Many E46's (mine) were programmed exactly as Nov stated above.

You could try a dealer or perhaps one of the board sponsors for typical costs. I don't think they are very expensive ($200-$300) but I don't know for sure.

The clown nose can be made to blink and the lights will flash upon lock/unlock. You are pre-wired for the alarm, but the alarm is not there.

Wiki in the upper right will answer this and oh so many more.

Mine clown nose is the same. I had to have my daytime running lights programmed off and got quotes ranging from $50 to $90. During a warranty visit, they were "cool" enough to just do it for free. I love how pricing is based on service manager moods or whether he or she lost at the track the night before.

As stated before, lots of e46's have a clown nose that blinks but no alarm.
