An attorney will get it.

Everybody taking the owners' side which, I suppose, is understandable ... but ... something does not add up here.

If the engine seized because the oil level was low, one of two things are likely:

1. The low oil light came on and the owner ignored it and kept driving.

2. The low oil light sensor failed.

If BMW is denying warranty, I'm betting they are going with option 1.

It may be that the sensor failed. I think the owner reported that they did not get a low oil warning.

JD, you lost money on your bet. There was no warning for low oil. That's one of my arguments with BMW; I took my car into the local service team for top offs when I got a warning. When I checked the oil level on my idrive, it even showed green.

When I got my new 2013 650 ix, I had about 2,500 miles on the car and the low oil light came on. I was about 5 miles from an auto parts store so I drove there and put in 2 quarts. I've checked it religiously since then, use a quart every 1,200-1,500 miles or so. Depends on how 'spirited' I drive.

"Showed green?" How did you check your oil after the engine locked up?

I wish I could have checked it afterward... but that wasn't possible. I checked my idrive weekly. The service rep confirmed the last time the idrive was checked and it was green. He would not tell me the date, but said it was a couple days before the engine failure. He told me the DCS data is proprietary to BMW. He read it to me, but would not let me see it.

Engine locked up! Need advice!

Nobody will know why the engine seized until it's removed and dissected. BMWNA conclusion is just a baseless guess. A 24 month warranty is unacceptable. Does the car now suffer from diminished value with an engine replacement? Good luck selling it to anyone.

Any update on this case? Would be interesting to hear the root cause?

Looking for an update as well. I recently had my f10 550 seize up. Although its under CPO I'm expecting a little back lash with the cost of a new engine.

You may want to check this out. The lockup on your motor maybe due to a faulty motor. You can by a new N63 for under $4K from BMW due to the recall.

I have a BMW 328i 2010 rolling like a 20m brake to cross it turned off, I did not want to turn on more as if it were discharged battery, when starting the damper turns, I already tried another battery and with jumper and the same Remove the multi channel run and lower spark plug but I see that the damper gets hard the starter the coals look good. How hard should the crankshaft be? They are so hard and slow down but do not stop with anything, without all those accessory and spark plug turns but very heavy

You are asking your question in the wrong forum, you need to transfer it to the appropriate model forum, then you will receive more pertinent answers. plus you need to get someone to help with your question as much of it is not understandable

Wow, this same thing happened to me. It was under (3rd party) warranty when it seized. Right before hiring an attorney the warranty company finally decided to repair the motor. If interested I post a video on this bellow. I should have been on this forum years ago.

Damn your video was long, dragged out and boring! You wasted all that time to simply tell a 3 minute story! You are not too bright dawg. Damn son.
