OEM Roof Rack question

I just got a 2014 X1. I am now looking to put the OEM base support roof rack system on it. My dealer lists it for $275 uninstalled, and $330 installed. this increase seems to be an excessive amount. I assume that the rack is designed to be installed and removed easily as needed. Am I missing something with the installation?

That's the silliest thing in the world. You will likely install and uninstall the base support system yourself as needed.

See this thread for a comment on how quick the system is to install - I haven't tested it myself, but I have been told that it is 5 minutes to install and 2 minutes to uninstall: https://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...highlight=rack

I would push your dealer on the price - mine (BMW of Reading) quoted me $220 for the base support system without any pressure or negotiation.

I would also check out BMW of Minnetonka, that sells through Amazon with free shipping, and Circle BMW, both of whom X1 users in the forum generally respect.

If you can get $220 form a dealer, I would go that route rather than saving $10 and ordering from eBay.

we got ours for around $230 when we first bought the car, and the SA helped me put it on... takes a few adjustments and the aluminum edges can be sharp but we figured it out and got them on in about 15 min.

OEM Roof Rack question

I hope you havent pulled the trigger yet.. Circle BMW sells the OEM rack for 180.. I bought it from them and they are fast and by far the cheapest.. About the installation I haven't installed it since my car is still sailing the pacific but it looks like it should not take more than a few minutes to install and uninstall tell the stealership to go scam someone else..

OEM Roof Rack question

I got the OEM base support and the snowboard/ski holder the same day I picked up the car. They gave me a discount and I paid $234 for both. I installed it myself in the winter and it took 5 minutes. I took it off a few weeks ago and it took a few minutes. It helps if you have another person to help hold the other side when you put it on so you don't scratch the roof. If you do it yourself put a towel down to protect the paint.

They didn't put my deal together fast enough so they threw that in and a bunch of other goodies.... BMW takes care of their customers... I'd try it next time they screw something up.
