Prepurchase E84 question

To all E84 owners with iDrive screens. Do you experience severe glare and wash out of the iDrive screen from sun coming through the windows? We are considering purchasing a 2015 X1 and one thing I noticed while test driving was the screen had tendency to really wash out from sun coming in the car. So much so, that at times it was unreadable. Didn’t have that problem with the 2016 we test drove, but that model has a different LCD and positioned differently in car as well. Is glare wash out normal behavior on the E84 series or is it possible the anti-glare coating on the screen was damaged/removed by previous owner.

TIA for any input.

I have a 2014 X1 and have never had an issue with screen washout. You can adjust the screen brightness in the preferences via iDrive. That might have been the issue with the one you tested. Good luck with the purchase. I've had my '14 since December and am VERY happy with it!

Thanks for the quick response. Good to know. The brightness setting was the first thing I checked (it was set to max). I am hoping it's was just dirty. It looked like someone had possibly sprayed or sneezed(ugh!) on it. My other fear is someone cleaned it incorrectly and removed the anti-glare coating. But this is a CPO, so I was looking for feedback before I bring it up as point to address. Didn't make a deal about at the time because we weren't in love with the sand beige interior. But now we are rethinking.

Glad you like your 2014. We were both sort of surprised with the 2015 M Sport. We really were just planning to drive it as comparison to 2016 (w/o M sport). The redesigned F48 chassis just felt un BMW like to us. Not as tight as the E84 suspension so we have decided to reconsider the E84.

My 2014 E84 does NOT have iDrive, but my 2010 and 2011 E90s do and both are perfectly fine in the sun. Agreed that brightness setting might have something to do with it ? Or it was dirty ?

Not even sure if -40 degrees is cold anymore ?

2013 with iDrive and I think the screen looks great even with bright sun coming from the sun roof on it. I also have MSport and love how it rides. Good luck.
