i01 LDW enable attempt

Well, been tinkering with the wife's i3 REx and am trying to enable lane departure warning on it. Vehicle has the DA+ package, so it already has the KAFAS system with FCW and Pedestrian Detection. As a caveat, this may not even be possible/beneficial on this vehicle as I do not see much in terms of indicators on the KOMBI for it and there is no wheel actuator to vibrate. More of a curiosity project that anything.

So far, I have managed to get it to appear in the SARAH menu, but it is greyed out and says cannot be activated. Found the following values that appear related(listed values are what I switched them to):

KOMBI:
3003, TLC_VERBAUT, aktiv
3004, ST_TLC_TIMEOUT, aktiv
3004, ST_TLC_ALIVE, aktiv
3004, ST_TLC_APPL, aktiv

HU-NBT
3001, LANE_DEPARTURE_WARNING, aktiv

KAFAS
3020, SEND_MSG_18A, nicht_activ(switching this to activ breaks all KAFAS functions!)
3020, TLC_START_VERSION, PIA_mode(also tried a manual werte of 01, no dice)
3020, TLC_ON_OFF,TLC_on_[all](also tried F15_on, no change)
3020, SEND_MESSAGE_327, message_on
3020, SEND_MESSAGE_345, message_on_[all](also tried F15_on, no change)
3040, ACTUATOR_ON_OFF, vib_[all](just in case it makes a difference??)

Other than breaking all KAFAS functions I could not get much change beyond getting the option to appear in the iDrive SARAH menu.

Used this semi-related thread as a baseline as well:

Will keep tinkering, used 30% of the car's battery today out playing with software in 20 degree weather Working on this and the active cruise assistant projects.

Feel free to chime in if anyone has any suggestions or any better luck!

I do not knew much about i3, but I would not attempt to FDL Code LDW if this if it can be VO Coded. I would check Ordering Guide, and see if S5ADA Lane Departure Warning is a valid Option, and if so, then add 5AD to FA and VO Code KAFAS, Kombi, and NBT.

It was not an option on the car(at least for US spec), but it may be worth a shot anyway!

Do you know by chance if the SAS module is involved with LDW on F15s? I looked for TLC lines in the CAFD, but it may be labeled differently as it did not use abbreviations. It did look like some of the ACC functions were in there, which is also strictly KAFAS based on this car.

The F15 is the most comparable mainline car we have, body electronics wise.

I will do some digging in the manual for this answer as well, and report back.

What is SAS Module? I do not recall this in F15.

Hmm...I thought the F15 had it as well, but looking back at my training docs it appears I was mistaken.

The SAS is an optional equipment module on the i01/i12/G12 that coordinates the operation of a good portion of the optional equipment, such as PMA, ACC, LDW, SWW, etc. Similar to a gateway dedicated to the driver assistance functions, except rather than going through the SAS they just reference it as a central information source.

What is name of the CAFD for SAS module? I will study it when I find some time.

Hi,

I am doing some research of retrofitting the KAFAS module and camera in my i3.
I see I also need the SAS module, it has a 26-pin connector but in the Diagram it uses only 6 pins.
Is this correct, I need to only run 6 wires (Positive, Negative, S CAN and FlexRay)?
