Rookie Mistake

I'm posting this (as embarrassing as it is) for the benefit of other newbie DIYers. I decided to replace the lower rearward control arm on the front passenger side. I watched the repair video by the 5oskid on youtube. I noticed he loosened the nut by turning the wrench toward the car. SO I went out there and did the same thing and after applying some serious force got it to budge. I was feeling good about myself until I noticed the nut was turning in place and the bolt was not. Of course the 5oskid was working on the driver side.

At first I thought I just needed to keep the ball joint from turning with a torx bit but alas that was not the case. The bolt was not moving, just the nut. I stripped the darn thing.

Any suggestions for getting it off. I don't have the tools to cut it off. Was considering getting a nut splitter but read some very mixed reviews on it.

At this point I'm resigned to bringing it to my local mechanic.

Turned out to be a $125 mistake. My local installed the new control arm. On the positive side I saved a few hundred $ by not having to replace my front brakes. What felt like warped rotors/brake chucking when applying the brakes down hill or at high speeds has disappeared with the new control arm.
