As BMW warned us and as we saw in leaked photos yesterday, the 2021 BMW 4 Series Coupe will, indeed, have a massive grille. It will also get a new mild-hybrid inline-six, better aero, and new sheet metal, which should all help it stand out.

The base 430i (and xDrive) comes with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged to make 255 hp and 294 lb-ft of torque. Thatís good enough to get it up to 60 mph in just 5.3 seconds (or 5.5 seconds RWD) and on to a top speed of 155 mph.

The M440i xDrive, meanwhile, makes use of a 3.0-liter straight six with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, like the 2021 5 Series. It makes 382 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque and gets to 60 mph in just 4.3 seconds. An 8-speed automatic transmission will handle power for both.

There are also some diesel models, but North American buyers need not concern themselves with them.

And despite sharing a platform with the 3 Series, it is an inch wider at the back and gets a model-specific suspension package to improve rigidity and handle the bigger dimensions.

The 4 Series is also 2.2-inches longer, an inch wider, and 2.2-inches lower, than the 3 Series, completing the lower, longer, wider trifecta we all crave. Still, the 4 Series manages to hang onto its perfect 50:50 weight distribution to ensure that the driving dynamics remain balanced.

Inside, SensaTec faux leather is standard, and comes in either black or beige. Real leather is available in red, mocha, Cognac, Oyster, and black with blue contrast stitching as well as black and beige.

An 8.8-inch screen in the centre of the dash is standard, as is a 5.1-inch digital display between the instruments. A 10.3-inch screen and 12.3-inch binnacle screen are also available.

The new infotainment screen will run iDrive 7.0, which offers cloud-based navigation, a head-up display, and 3D environment visualization in the instrument cluster. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are also available.

The 430i starts at $45,600 while the M440 xDrive starts at $58,500. The 4 Series will the streets in October.

It looks awesome. I especially like the front of the car with its distinctive design and beautiful proportions.

The front looks like it was designed by Cylons and the rear looks like a Hyundai. I was hoping to downsize my personal ride to a 440 in a year or two but not for this.

Will the M440i for USA support CD player pre-wire? I'm totally good with BT and USB-C (yay, excellent) but also will want CD, hopefully a 6 disc changer as my E60 has so well supported.

What is a CD? Why would you want 6 Certificate of Deposits in your car?
