7 Series - G11 / G12 (2016 - current)
The next generation G11/G12 BMW 7 Series flagship forum. Unveiled June 10th, with production starting in August the 6th generation 7 Series comes in a light weight package with extensive use of BMW i carbon fiber technology. The interior quality raises the bar with a touch screen and gesture controlled infotainment system. Exterior styling has been a sticking point with mixed reviews so far.

Remote Control Parking 2016 7 series G12

BMW is refusing to retro fit the 7 series mfg. before March 2016 with this feature. I was told by BMW NA when I bought the car, that when they got approval from the US that the upgrade would be added to the cars. I purchased the Display Key for this reason alone. They are saying now that is a hardware issue and are not going to do it. This is like the list of features that were advertised on the BMW NA website for the car that were not available on the US cars. I have filed a complaint with BMW NA on Sept. 16th and am waiting a response. If BMW can do a recall for the airbag module then they can do a recall for this also. If enough G12 owners who bought the Display Key complain to BMW just maybe we can get this done. The Tesla Version 7.1 software update, was automatically sent out wirelessly to all Model S vehicles this spring. DUH!! This may be the last BMW that I buy, if this is how BMW treat their customers.

I just spoke with BMW NA about having my car get the retro on the Remote Parking but they told me that they have not received any word from BMW about this change.

Anyone else get a different response?

It's a HARDWARE UPGRADE. BMW WILL NOT RETRO FIT THE CAR per BMW NA

It was advertised by BMW NA on their website back in July 2015. It was also shown as a feature at a private showing of the car to a select group of prospective buyers by BMW NA on July 16, 2015 in Dallas, TX. BMW NA stated that they were working to get this approved in the USA and would advise if and when it was available. It has been available on the G12 since March of 2016 as $550.00 option. I was told by BMW NA (when I ordered my car on July 17,2015) to specifically order the DISPLAY KEY if i would like this feature added when it became available. Since it cannot be retrofitted on the early models, I worked with BMW NA and received a credit for $250.00 for the Display Key. All's well that end well.

Well mine was built in June 16 so hopefully the hardware is there.

And you are correct that they made a big deal of it and on the BMW US site.

I thought it's just software issue, like they just block this function from display key. So did they say it's possible to retrofit if the car has that module ?

I guess I am in the minority as BMW said (*Pending regulatory approval) but I do read the fine print and the regulators at that time did not approve...

in the end, I did not option it or pay for it so really not big a deal.

I was told it could be add back on when I place my order back in Jan 2016. Extremely disappointed with BMW. I was under the impression that could be added back on.

Q - Would you use it on a routine basis?

You can get a retrofit off Ebay but it is expensive. I figure about $3k when all said and done (parts/labor/software).

Yeah - hear you. I'm trying to figure out our use case for the feature. Ordered it as a must have and will see how we actually end up using once car arrives later in the week.

Half the time when I tried to use it (just about a dozen times) I get a there is "interference" message suggesting to try again. Impressive as a demo - not that useful for me.

The interference is in a garage, outdoors, does not matter. Other times - no issue
