I thought I had low mileage; just 11,750 miles on my '04. It turned 2 at the end of February.

65,000 on my 2001 325 Ci.
Occasional cold weather rough idling when cold and a problem door handle on one occasion. Apart from that, fine.
I keep pushing my mechanic to find something that needs fixing... but he says it still drives like a new car .

I Win

'00 323 Ci - just hit 140K on Wednesday. Mostly freeway miles so brakes at 100K and Y rated tires every 45K or so. Just now getting to control arm bushings and a leaking rear shock. Otherwise standard stuff (except I hate regluing that window trim!).

Can anyone beat 140,000?

23k miles on my '04 325XI
  • Recall done on the ignition coil
  • Full alignment when delivered from Euro Delivery
  • Trunk indicator electronics replaced under warranty
  • Sirius antenna replaced twice
That is about it. I have the usual 2 or 3 sec morning rough idling during the winter months during startup. Change oil every 7500 miles. All things considered, I'm really happy and when I'm driving through the backroads, these little annoyances seem to disappear.

137k on my 325xit 2001. I'm the second owner but together we've put solid miles on this car. It's been rock solid and only required the usual/typical maintenance so far. Hopefully I haven't jinxed myself.

15k on my '04 (took delivery June 03).

Problems so far:

large black specks in the paint (front end repainted under warranty)
ignition coils
multiple DME updates to solve stalling
5 batteries
replaced driver seat rails
idle control valve (in an attempt to fix stalling)
trunk latch

As far as reliability, its the worst car I've ever owned. But all I need to do is turn that key, put it in first gear, and go...then all of that fades away, replaced with an ear-to-ear grin! Damn you BMW

Wow this thread really struck a cord and I feel some of you guys .
I have an 2001 325CI. I bought the car with 17 and change thousand miles on Verterans Day 2004. Today I have 85,000 miles on it.
I have changed the wheel bearing twice, brake pads and rotors twice, a cracked headlight, lost count of the bulbs replaced (10), Driver seat cracking, front bumper got caught on one of the parking stumps (ugh!), have bought two set of Toyo Proxes 4 and lastly just this week I have to replace the clutch, pressure plate etc.

Im actually getting rid of it in teh next 4 months and get a 03 /04 330CI or maybe just jump on a 06 5 series cause the baby chair in the back of the 325CI is becoming a pain in the ass to keep putting back on and taking out.

LIVE FAST DRIVE STRONG !

Part of the HVAC. Control circuitry for fan.

OBTW 2000 323Ci 60,567mi. I've replaced the secondary air pump at around 32,000. Tires, battery, pads, gas & oil.

Ive got an '01 330Ci with 90k miles. I've had to replace the battery, alternator, brakes+rotors all around, and tires of course.

My cousin's got a '00 328Ci with 176k miles. I have no idea what it needs, but it's at least brakes all around and a thermostat.

I've got a 2001 330i, with 102,000 km's. 0 problems. just take proper care of your car, treat her with the respect she deserves, and she should last. These cars are built so well, if you take proper care, and drive well, nothing should happen to them. check the suspension all-round once in a while too, to make sure nothing's loosening up.
and give you car lots of love. handwash. dont use high pressure. even bmw tells you this in the manual.

best of luck

Tony

2000 323I with 151K

Engine has all the original parts and running smooth, except new spark pugs at 120k.

Transmission hanging by a string but still moving just not in 5th gear or overdrive.
I guess the bad transmission has me driving the car gently. And thats what is keeping the car in good condition.
