What did you do for your #89 today?

I was gonna wash it but I drove drove drove it instead. 120 miles of twisty turny hill country roads...
Was that so bad?

Just replaced front struts with Bilstein B4 yesterday and rear shocks with the same B4 rating last week.
New Michelin Pilot 4s... ride is smooth and responsive.

I just ordered a Remus cat back exhaust. Can't wait to install next Saturday ?

What are you doing for your Z4 today? A tank of gas? A bath? What is it?

Driving

When I was in S, Cali, in the 80s, I drove the Palomar Mt, road ,the Elsinore rd, the Cleveland forest and that San Bernadino highway. Also the road out of Julian out to the desert. And that was before GPS and google maps Had a rental convert and wished for a car like the Z. Also drove a bit up by Yosemite Country and down the coast road. Heavenly in a roadster The Grey whales were migrating out there off Big Sur.
You are fortunate ,Enjoy!
Manual or DCT?
Roads in S.C. are straight and flat but having a roadster in nice weather is still a joy.

My 3.0 is a 6 speed manual. I would not have it any other way. I Drive some of the roads you mention weekly. I especially like the loop around Mt Palomar - It is roadster country. Comeon back the road is calling.

I'll play...
I was going to give her a wash and wax but we had a good rain this week and she is basically still spotless. I always keep a good wax on her and as you know the gray is a very forgiving color. But the inside windows could use a cleaning and a quick vacuum, so I will do that and then it will be some top down driving to the gym and a few errands. Beautiful day today in MD.

Received a big box. Plans are to install the Remus exhaust tomorrow. I made a little video of revving up the stock exhaust so I can share the comparison.
Stupid wheel spacers came too small? So we are exchanging those.

Remus catback exhaust installed and a 50 mile test drive
Install for this thing not something you want to do alone or on your back under the car. Sounds good, not too loud, deeper tone... kind of subtle really. Here is a sound byte before and after video >

How difficult was the brake pad installation? What kind or make did you use? I have to do this too.

+1

I have seen some videos of pad installation for the 3 Series and it looks straight forward. I assume our cars will be very similar??? There is a recommendation to use new caliper slide bolts every time they are removed as there is thread lock on the threads that is one time use. Some people are saying you can use the same bolts as long as you use Loctite on them. But lots of discussion on what strength to use.

Considering how seldom you need to do this new bolts could be a wise investment - I've search you tube for videos.
Found this good video here >

Hey scootr, I went with an OEM disc pad. Semi-Met. I got my pads and my disc wear sensors from Advanced Auto Parts. The Stealership wanted almost three times more for the same pads I got from Advanced. The fronts were easy to do. The rears got a little tricky because of the electric emergency brake built into the Caliper. I watched Otto's video on youtube a few times and was able to replace the rear pads. If you watch the video Otto makes it look easy and it was. The caliper slide bolts I cleaned and greased and reinstalled them. They were not torqued very tight and were easy to remove. I inspected them and they looked fine to me so I reused them. This was a fairly easy job to do. Believe me when I say I was very happy about that. I got to enjoy some of my Saturday !

Cool. Thanks for the encouragement and tip on the brake parts source.

Finally got the spacers sorted out. 1st eBay seller sent the wrong ones ...
Ended up with hub-centric 10 mm fronts and 18mm rears.
The results is the wheels are out flush with the body now. It looks better and I think it rides better.
I gained about 3/4" width in the front and about 1.25" in the rear.

I spent the morning taking her out for a drive and the afternoon giving the interior a good cleaning, including treating the leather. Washed the exterior, filled the tank, put in some fuel stabilizer and parked her in the garage for the winter. My tag and insurance expires today which will make sure she stays there until spring. I'll spend the rest of the winter doing minor detailing and cleaning on a car that is already clean!

Wow. Iím impressed. I thought I loved and cared about my E89 but you beat me by a large margin. If you run out of things to clean and detail on yours, youíre welcome to clean mine.

A black car always needs washing. 5 minutes after a wash it's dirty again

I read on an auto forum that black is not a color .....
it's a job.

Ordered a code reader with a 4 yr warranty for less than $200.
Figure this should pay for itself. FOXWELL NT510

Replaced the side marker lights with something I found on eBay.
Great deep amber light in a clear lens. They are plug n play - hard part is finding the right tool to press the release tab on the marker light to remove it. New lights just snap right in.
I like em - let me know what you think

They look good but be sure to save your OEM ones.

I suspect coming from eBay/China that plastic chrome is probably not be the best quality so they might not last too long in the CA sun.

BTW we are visiting San Diego in December and are going to make a trip up to Temecula wine country. Should be fun!

I like them. They look just like the lights on the later models. Good upgrade and probably not too expensive. Keep up the good work.

As for what I did for my car today, I put it on the battery charger. I also noticed a minor door ding that I never noticed before that now shouts at me every time I look at the car. I don't know if I can wait until spring to take it out of storage and get it fixed......

Sorry about your door ding. I've been lucky so far.
The markers were about $100 for both. They had 3 clips and peel and stick 3m adhesive.
Literally the hardest part was finding a little 1/4" hardwood stick could reach and release the front clip on the original light.

When do you get to pull the car out of storage again?
