Rear storage space / spare tire compartment cover Strut

Guys, have a quick question:

The strut that holds up the cover for the storage space in the trunk in my X5 is missing. Can somebody point me towards the part number please? I will likely also need the base where the strut screws to the cover that requires four bolts...

Thanks in advance,
Andres

A model/model year would help us help you better if you're going to have us look up part nbrs for you.

{#5? I used a 2012 X5 35d cause I have no clue what you have}

Funny mine is missing also. I wonder if there is a reason prior owners remove them.

Mine is not missing. I suspect that others' are bent/broken and removed as it appears quite fragile, a slender column.

I had to rebuild the cheapass latch mechanism for trying to compress a pillow.

I don't think they came standard in the earlier builds. My 09 did not have one and still does not.

Mine looks like it never had it either... which kind of makes sense because the car had RFT tires, unless you're storing some type of crap down there, there is it really any reason to be lifting that too often.

Our previous ML had a Little strap that would allow you to hook that cover to the top edge of the trunk opening, holding it in place securely. I may actually opt for that solution instead, as I see this part being fairly expensive right now.

I installed the strut on my new 2013. It's nice to have when you are checking your battery or adding the compact spare.

I thought all the LCI models lacked the strut, but I see someone with a 2009 that is missing the strut too.

It's an easy install with the drill holes already marked. Highly recommend.

I got mine back in 2015 from BMW of Silver Springs (MD). The strut and holder were $105 - they had a package deal at that time. It is handy when getting things out of the storage area. My X5 is a 2009 30i built in May 2009.

I got lucky this past Saturday. I went to the local breakers yard, and they had an X5 they had just received. $11 later, I have my four bolts, the brackets, and the strut.

It was a Pre-LCI and assume it had it at some point, but it was long gone.
