G30 (2017 - Current)
The next generation 5 Series, chassis code G30, arrives at dealers in February 2017. Looking like a scaled down 7 Series and riding on the CLAR platform, the new 5 Series will have a focus on lightweight and sporty performance. Engines options will come from BMW's new B family for the 530 and 540 and a turbocharged V8 for the M550i. Read more about the 2017 5 Series

Spotify app not loading...

It worked when I got the car last week and now it just spins and says loading. Nothing else has changed. Any way to fix this? If it matters, guessing it doesn't, I have an iPhone XS. Shouldn't have anything to do with it but anyway... thanks.

Every time this happens to me I discover that the app needs to be updated. Happens with Pandora, also.

To clarify- ALMOST every time this happens I discover an update is needed. There are also some times when Pandora and Spotify just don't start up right (I'm using wireless carplay).

Lots of discussion on this in Spotify forums. Not just BMWs. Spotify released an update last November that broke many car integrations and they've yet to completely fix it.

Some updates to BMW Connected have helped, but it's still not completely working (for example even when it connects, HUD info is all wonky or just shows loading forever).

My other car I have an aftermarket Kenwood (so no BMW Connected intermediary app) and the newest Spotify versions still don't work. After tons of trial/error, I also realized that this Spotify update was also the culprit in why Android Auto stopped working on that car at the same time. Rolling back to a prior version (8.4.77.779) brings both Spotify and Android Auto back, and that version also makes Spotify work on my G30.

Another issue I've noticed is this: I connect to my BMW through wireless Carplay, and when I load up spotify it's not always correct. it lists some songs in my saved list that haven't been there in months. My takeaway from this is that it could probably benefit from complete disassociating the phone from the car and reconnecting, from time to time.

It's been nearly a year since this problem started up, and in the last two updates I now can't even get the in-app menus to work in Spotify on either of my phones. Spotify have proven they have no interest in actually fixing their app, so I have cancelled my Family Premium subscription as of today. Quite happy with a mix of Amazon, Deezer, Google Play, and SiriusXM now.

In the car I have to connect by normal bluetooth and don't get the album art and such (aside from SXM of course), but at least it actually works consistently.

Glad to see it's not just me. I've had my car almost two weeks now and Spotify in HUD always just shows "updating" so I have to skip tracks using the head unit buttons (as the gestures is always hit or miss, usually miss). My Pandora app doesn't even show up in the car. I have a Samsung Galaxy S10.

Gooselee- I've found that when Spotify does this, so too does Pandora, so I don't think it's a spotify issue, I think it's an iphone/internet service/connectivity issue.

That may be what's happening for you, but that is not my personal experience. In all of my experimenting, Spotify is the common issue and has problems where no other apps/services do. Also, lots of my testing is with downloaded playlists where connectivity shouldn't be an issue at all.

I have tried this across:
- Multiple online/offline apps (Spotify, Google Play, Amazon Music, Deezer, Pandora)
- Multiple phones (granted, all Android, but various OS versions)
- Multiple vehicles/head units (my G30, wife's Lexus, old 4Runner with Kenwood aftermarket, handful of rental cars)
- Native integration (when available) vs. "vanilla" bluetooth connection vs. USB connection vs. Android Auto (on the Kenwood)

Basically every combination I try, all the other services work fine, but Spotify either doesn't work altogether, only partially works, or is unstable/unreliable in some way. They literally ignore or shut down threads on their community pages asking for help or support. It's not worth my time or money to try to use their service anymore.

Well if you feel comfortable isolating the problems you're experiencing to Spotify, then it sounds like you made the right decision.
