535d Low pressure fuel pump

I have a BMW dealer telling me the low-pressure fuel pump has had a catastrophic failure and discharged metal through ou the fuel system. I am aware of the HPFP issues but they insist the low-pressure pump is the issue. I drove the car into the dealership so I am skeptical that would be possible if the low-pressure fuel pump wasn't working. I am also skeptical that the particles would pass through the fuel pump strainer and the fuel filter. This is a 2014 with 55k miles. Of course, they want to replace the whole fuel system. Anyone ever heard of the Low-pressure fuel pump being the issue. Thanks for any insight

That is wierd you were able to drive in.
I would take it to indy shop to diagnose it again, possibly change LPFP with fuel filter and clean/flush fuel system.

Use a dealership that you can trust. Trust AND verify. Skepticism is the chastity of the intellect.

Catastrophic failure of the LPFP means the engine shouldn't run. Where have they found fuel pump debris?
