F10 / F11 (2011 - 2016)
The sixth generation of the BMW 5 Series Sedan (F10) was produced from 2011 - 2016 with LCI updates arriving in 2014. In the US BMW offered a hatchback 5 Series Gran Truismo (F07) and the rest of the world also go a Station Wagon/Touring version F11.

Anyone Negotiate their Lease Buy Out?

Hello All -

My 2016 535xi lease expires in about 90 days, I'd actually like to keep it and the only thing holding me back is the high residual price.

$82.5K MSRP now has a $47K residual value....the most expensive certified 2016 535xi's I find are asking about $37K (granted they do not have all the features).

I'll be about 6K under on miles (30K vs 36K)

From what I read, BMW will no longer negotiate the buy out with you or the dealer.

Anyone have success in their lease buy out?

Thanks.

BMW's plugged that loophole. If a dealer sells a lease turn in back to the leaser or a leaser's family member, the dealer's in deep doo doo with BMW NA. There's a thread on the Ask A Dealer board about this.

Recent posts in other enthusiast forum says 2016 F30 has $6k haircut on RV for buyout, do check if 2016 F10 has the same. 2017 RV discount may also come out soon.

Can't you just buy the car off their lot after you turn it in? Chances are it would be priced competitively.

Supposedly, the dealer can not sell the car to the owner for anything other than residual....I'll talk to the dealership where I bought it and see if they'll work a deal.

Update to follow.

From doing some reading, I had understood that the time to negotiate your residual is when you enter the lease, not when you're leaving it. The residual value is part of the calculation that establishes your lease payment, isn't it?

Residual price is typical set by the manufacturer and it's non-negotiable. The reality is as many have commented, is that when leasing..a high (artificially high) residual is a good thing as your lease payments are less.

If you want to buy it at the end of the lease the dealer won't negotiate off residual, it's a problem.

2016 535xi had a residual of 57%, when in reality...it appears to be barely 50% even when you include CPO

Wow, thank you...great to know.

Curious, did you have them certify it for you (i.e. CPO)?

Thanks again!

This was in October 2017 so times might be different as bmw always changes what and what they will not do

1. No cpo as it would cost 1700 and the car was only at 26k miles and we knew what was done and not done
2. Instead paid 1700 for a 5 yr 60k warranty financed by the dealer
3.Bought 5 year tire and wheel warranty for 1700 - so far paid for one tire in 1.5 years - might not make the money back on either but it lowers the bp and help manage cash outlay for next five years

I bought a cpo bmw 535 2014 myself at 38k and itís now worth 18-20k after 2.5 years so it depreciates super quick
