Broken roof rack mount cover - options

Earlier this Summer I had a roof racks installed on my car. I'm pretty much done with them for the season, so decided to remove them. When I removed the front rack, I discovered that the installer had broken the small flap that covers the mount point (right front).

I tried gluing it back together but it broke again as soon as I tried to fit it back in (Well, worth the try..).

Called the dealer - to replace that little plastic part they claim the entire trim piece needs to be replaced and painted. Total cost installed $265.

So...there must be some other options here. Does anyone have any suggestions or work arounds?

What is broken? The tabs on the side of the door? Or the plastic retainer under the rail that hold the door in place?

I would first try going to a local junk yard or look on eBay.

BMW sells a matte black version. Replacing both sides would be cheaper than paying the dealer for one. However, since this is a long piece, shipping will probably be expensive.

You could also get the primed version and spray it yourself.

OEM paint colors in aerosol cans can be found here:

Yes, the hinge on one side of the door. I was hoping to just replace the door itself. Just a small plastic part...seems silly to have to replace the entire trim piece.

Any luck finding the covers?

I have a couple missing, I suspect someone stole them!

Thanks!

I found an entire (used) black rail on ebay for $25, removed the flip covers, and painted them. Unfortunately, as others have posted, BMW does NOT sell the covers separately. Left or right doesn't matter, I just made sure the body style was the same (E92 in my case).

Good luck!

What do you actually look up on eBay? Can't figure out the words to use. Storm blew one off last night on my passenger side.
