Lights on...Lights off ?

For the last two months I've experienced a variation of the current problem.
On the 04...I've had about 1.5 years ...a cream puff...wife is the main driver (hence the urgency)...anyways, on the dash the warning light (yellow) indicates the main headlight is out! Simply put ALL headlights are functioning...I just changed the bulbs out 2 days ago.
My notion is that it's getting very hot in the enclosed/encased headlight fixtures, in addition the outside temps reaching 95degrees plus or so as of the last week . Maybe for starters ill remove those caps...(seeking some ventilation). What are your thoughts BMW brain trust?

Does it throw any codes?

I'm not very familar with the dash's lights/symbols -- only once had one that proved to be for a brake light out on X3#2. Interestingly, "the brake lights still worked" because it automatically turns on the secondary extra-heavy-braking lamp (in the hatch) when the regular lamp (in the quarter panel) burn outs.

Is the same dash warning-symbol given for any one of many potential lamps being out?

Now this morning and throughout the day... no warning lights!
strong battery
no codes
for the first model e83 the symbols are general
ex: the 04 doesn't have the door ajar symbol.
I think it hit 100 here in Savannah while I was out driving
I'm going to uncap the headlight housing...

Did you look for any corrosion on the connecting points of the lamps plug-in connector? Is there a headlight relay involved? Anything that would cause an increased resistance to the current flow in that circuit might be sensed by the computer as an open circuit.

That indicator doesn't only mean headlamp, it monitors headlamps, brake lamps, tail lamps, and I believe license plate lamps. Check all the lamps and see if another is burned out somewhere.

The cap is to keep moisture out of the lens. If you have the cap removed, be sure to reinstall it before washing the car or if it's going to rain, otherwise your lens will get condensation inside.
