G30 (2017 - Current)
The next generation 5 Series, chassis code G30, arrives at dealers in February 2017. Looking like a scaled down 7 Series and riding on the CLAR platform, the new 5 Series will have a focus on lightweight and sporty performance. Engines options will come from BMW's new B family for the 530 and 540 and a turbocharged V8 for the M550i. Read more about the 2017 5 Series

Anyone know the trick to releasing the rear middle seat belt from back deck when folding down the seats?

Mein Auto: nicht deins.
You mean the one one the rear parcel shelf? Doesn't it just pull out? .. I didn't think there was a special latch release button.

Mine got stuck once as well and the solution was to just pull on it as hard as you can, then let go and the reel should release. I have no idea why this works. I Googled the problem and this suggestion popped up. It worked for me.

I read the OP's post differently: that he was asking how to disconnect the belt when folding the seats down. (If that was indeed your question, there's a separate "buckle: by the middle passenger's hip). Once disconnected, the belt retracts back up into the parcel shelf.

I don't know if the G30 comes with a paperback owners manual...but the F chassis 5 series does (as well as my F chassis 6 series)...and in the manual's section on the "THROUGH-LOADING SYSTEM" section...it explains how to release the middle seat belt from the upper area (from the rear parcel shelf location) by inserting the latch plate from one of the other rear seat belts into the specified location designed to release it.

I'll go get a screenshot from an f10 owners manual and post back (in case you don't have a G30 owners manual that explains how to do it).

EDIT: The instructions below from the f10 owners manual is the same for my f06 in regards to releasing the rear middle seatbelt from its upper location on the rear parcel shelf if you want to remove it to lower the rear seat:

{f10 5 series}

{f06 6 series}
