Any recent steering wheel to fit on E36?

Hi, so today, i was talking to a police officer and suddenly, he saw that i have an aftermarket / racing steering wheel (beautiful...) then, he was mad... He asked to tow my car then i had to deal with him.
He told me the fact that the car came with an airbag system from factory, i have to keep it to be legal on road.
The question: can i fit a bmw steering wheel with or without airbag from a recent bmw model, like 2013 and up?
I hate the original steering wheel on my E36... Looks faded and not sexy at all.

Yes, it's possible to fit a later wheel. Search the forum for "steering wheel upgrade" or something similar

Canada has gotten that picky with modifications? Or was the cop just giving you grief?

Haha yeah depends on the places... Quebec (french Canada) is a bit picky... very concerned with security, health and environment (in general) so cars are checked frequently.
