7 Series - E65 / E66 (2002 - 2008)
Discussion of BMW's 4th generation E65/E66 7 Series flagship. The E65 generated much controversy, due to its radical styling and iDrive user difficulties. Nonetheless, the E65 broke records to become the best-selling 7-series iteration ever, especially after its 2005 facelift.

Need help.

I just bought a 04 745li and was told motor needs replaced but after going to look at it determined it isn't the motor so I bought it since he only wanted 900 for it. Get car home and try to start and nothing just as he said but I get ever message possible come up saying malfunctioning. I've read several post about no crank but none that fit my current issue. Along with all the malfunction lights the rnd keeps flashing and windows, seats, radio display along with other electronics do not function also. Could the ecu be bad or what other computer on car cause everything to not work properly? Also want to mention the battery is weak. I've read weak battery would cause problems but would u still be able to jump start car if battery was weak or bad?

I would suggest for the 1st thing you should do is replace the battery .
Once you do that , clear all codes & start from there with whatever
error codes return .( RND FLASHING usually means BAD Alternator )

that battery is probably not good & will not last more than a couple cranks , as I
said buy a new battery . As for clearing the codes , you need a scanner to read & clear
the errors . Oh ya you need to have the Battery registered to the car .

You can find INPA and the cable for around $65 on eBay all day long, all you need is a laptop to load it on. Get a new battery and code it to the car (easy to do with INPA), once it is coded to the car, clear all the codes for the Engine and transmission (you have to do those in separate steps on INPA. Try to start the car and see what comes back. Also make sure that the Key has a good battery in it as well, otherwise it won't start either.

Replaced battery, cleared code and came back with several things in red. Dme, vvt, and several other things. I took pic but don't know how to post it. There was also a fault in power module, could that cause loss of communication to all the modules?

Done diagnostic today and everything is malfunctioning, please let me know what could cause these errors. Could bad power module cause these modules to malfunction? I replace ivm today and there are no more errors coming up on dash but still get these errors when I run diagnostic.

If the IVM went bad (common on these cars with this age), the car won't start and you need to replace it. Available at BMW for around $110-$120. It is a plug and play installation. The IVM is located at the passenger side firewall, in the E-Box with the other modules.

Replaced engine

After I replaced engine on 745 now it won't crank. When I say won't crank key inserted foot on brake and push start button and nothing. Motor doesn't turn over no click or anything. My question is could computer gone bad during swap or would I have to use computer from donor car? What else should I look at to solve this issue?

No crank no start

Having issue with no crank no start. I know people say ivm but I've replaced that and still same issue. My question is if I diagnose with ISTA would it tell me if starter need replaced? These are errors that I get when I do but none related to not starting.
