G30 (2017 - Current)
The next generation 5 Series, chassis code G30, arrives at dealers in February 2017. Looking like a scaled down 7 Series and riding on the CLAR platform, the new 5 Series will have a focus on lightweight and sporty performance. Engines options will come from BMW's new B family for the 530 and 540 and a turbocharged V8 for the M550i. Read more about the 2017 5 Series

Thanks! Looks like new cockpit display is standard across the line, and doesn't require ZPX. Everything else seems the same. Configured with identical options, there is virtually no price difference with MY19 (for 540xi, at least).

Is there a reason why dynamic damper control is only available as part of ZMP or ZDH on 540? On 530i and 530e it can be ordered as a stand-alone option...

Nice! Any chance you could post similar documents on the G20 forum? The mods appear to have lost interest in providing these.

Look at the bright side. It also did not get the God awful size XXXL grill that the other refreshed models such as the Seven series got. When the 2021 comes out next year with it you will be scooping up one of these leftover boring 2020s to avoid the big mouth version.

Actually, I've seen a couple of X7's and kind of like the larger size grill -- maybe they look better on the taller SUV models. Have to say, even after 1.5 years with my '18 540i, the grill overall design is my least favorite part.

Mein Auto: 2020 M Sport 540i ordered
-With MY2020, every 5 series model now comes with the new Live Cockpit Professional with a 12.3" Digitial Instrument Cluster and 10.25" Center Display. This Live Cockpit will come with the same BMW iDrive 7.0 Operating System that launched on the G05 X5.

-With the upgraded head unit, each car will now have updated Sport Displays in the center display and updated steering wheel buttons.

-In the center console, a USB-C port has replaced the USB-A port to allow for faster charging times (3A current). The USB port near the cup holders remains as a USB-A port.

-The 530e battery has been increased by ~25% from 9.2 to 12 kWh.

-The M550i xDrive receives an upgraded N63 engine, increasing its power to 523 hp (+67 hp vs MY19) leading to a 0-60 mph of 3.6 seconds (-0.3 sec)!
Helping to control all this power, it also receives a standard limited slip differential.

-In terms of equipment, on the 530i/530e/540i models, the following options have been made standard.

Comfort Access (322)

-On the M550xi, the following options have been made standard
Heated Front Seats (494)
M Sport Differential (2T4)

-For the MY20 5 Series, the premium contenting package structure has been slightly modified. Higher tier packages now include the content and price of the lower tiers. For example, Executive Package includes the content and price from Premium Package and Convenience Package and the packages are not combinableience. Overall, pricing remains unchanged.

Package changes include:

As Comfort Access has been made standard, Convienence Package (ZCV) includes Automatic Tailgate (316), Heated Front Seats (494), and Satellite Radio with 1 year subscription (655). Pricing is $850.

M Sport (ZMP) and Luxury Package (ZPL) now include SensaTec Dashboard (4AW)

As the digital instrument cluster is now standard, 6WB is no longer offered in Executive Package.

I'm kinda surprised that Live Cockpit is now standard before the LCI, but it makes some sense. With the G20 including it, hard to have the upper model with an inferior display.

Based on early feedback from some, inferior may be too strong a word.

I wonder when Bmw will try to get rid of 2019 inventory aggressively.

Im confused about the MY 2020 G30. Some people on this board insist that the LCI model is MY 2021 which I don't understand. The G30 was new in 2017 which makes the 2020 the 4th year. Wouldn't that be the LCI? 2021 would be the 5th year, with as brand new body in 2024.

You are acting like that is some kind of law. Sedan sales are tanking. The big investment dollars go to SUVs now. Sure, there will always be updates. But the rules are not cast in granite. Isn't the 7 series updated for 2020? Didn't it come out the year before the G30? I admit I'll have to check. Not positive.

Just looked it up. I was correct. Seven series came out as 2016 and updated for 2020.

This isn't the true LCI. An LCI would have some styling updates. It's just that these days across all manufacturers, you pretty much need to get new features out to cars as soon as they are ready. The agile methodology applied to cars.

Nobody is saying this is a LCI. You may be confused about what Bruin72 said. He is not saying this is a LCI. He is saying he thought the 2020 should be an LCI. Thatís how I read it.

That's not how to look at it.
The G30 was new in 2017 AS A model year 2017. We are now 2 years and 4 months after original launch in the U.S. (excluding M550).

Even if the L.C.I. is released as late as November of 2020 (as a MY 2021), it would still be LESS than 4 years of time elapsed since original launch.
The Model year is irrelevant; and something that is only tinkered with here by the U.S. divisions of European car companies (BMWNA).

There's nothing unusual about releasing an LCI 3-4 calendar years after initial launch.

What do you mean ready? BMW is currently manufacturing 2020's with the Live Cockpit. I have an M5 in production this week/next week and saw a post elsewhere from a guy that had already done a ED on a '20 M5 a week or so back and is waiting for it to ship to the US (and he had a Live Cockpit picture to go along with this post).

According to my dealer when I was deciding M550i vs M5 the only 5 series being produced right now are M550i and M5, the 530 and 540 model(s) will follow a couple months down the road.

That seems pretty odd. Dealers are stocking very few 550s. Is not unusual for me to look at cars.com and find less than ten in the whole state of Texas. I just looked, there are seven within 500 miles of Houston. And no, itís not because of the model year change. That has been pretty normal all year.
