Same issue with 98 318I
I have been plagued with electrical issues after buying this car a year ago. Living in Japan BMW is not well known here and taking it to garages results in less than expert level work. Not to mention language barrier. After reading through these responses and things to do I feel like my car has had the exact same issue. Had the battery replaced under warranty . Every time the issue occurs I check the voltage. Always above 11.5v. All fuses are good. No random lights left on. I'd been thinking there's a grounding issue with it until I read this. Going to replace the Positive post and clamp. Hopefully that will permanently fix my issue. Thank you for putting this out there.
