Hi everyone im in need of your help. Before i go into any sort of detail let me first explain that i am not mechanically minded or know anything about engines.

I have recently bought a 2009 M5 thats done 52k. Its in great condition and full BMW history.

Issues started with a shake on idle that then brought on a engine management light that progressed to limp mode.

I took the car to a BMW specialist who explained misfire on cylinder 1 needs new coil and plug.

After replacing said parts he called me to explain that there was a fair amount of smoke coming out of driver side pipes. I went to see the car and there is nothing coming out of passenger side but a clearly visible amount on other side.

He explained that this could be terminal and in effect the car was only going to get worse. He stated you would expect to see oil etc in other cylinders but its bad news to be just in "one bank" the car drives fine pulls well but i really feel sick after hearing this.

Can anyone help me?

Much appreciated

Burning oil may be coming from a cylinder where the rings are bad. The rings seal the piston against the cylinder walls. So first get a diagnosis from someone else. If you trust the first mechanic, ask him about diagnosing the specific problem. i would also read the service records to see if this problem had turned up before. The result you are looking for is a specific diagnosis and cost to fix. But always get two opinions.
