Android Phone Pairing

Driving a 2014 328iX. Got the car in January 2017 and my Galaxy S7 was paired with the car. About a week ago, no pairing. Tried to pair, keep getting failure messages. I have consulted with help desk at Samsung, but their suggestion now is to reset everything in my phone which I am not interested in doing.

Any suggestions or ideas?

Clear the cache on the phone, then try, like doing a reset but only the cache, no loss of data go to a site like Android Central, instructions in how to clear the cache and pairing help in those forums

Almost certainly due to an Android update. Are you on Marshmallow, Nougat or Oreo?

Not sure where to find that. Under "about phone" it says android version 7,0 and a security patch applied in January 2018.

I think you are right about my phone being updated, but I don't know how to fix it.

no need to "fix it". you are on Nougat. Wipe the cache partition that usually fixes everything after an update. A quick google search gave me the below. I ran a S5 now on a S8, no problems paring. I searched for S7 Wipe system cache, no loss of data

Wipe cache partition

Turn off the device.
Press and hold the Volume Up key, Home key, and Power key at the same time.
When the phone powers on, the Android System Recovery screen appears approx. 30 seconds later.
Release all of the keys.
Press the Volume down key to highlight "wipe cache partition."
