7 Series - E65 / E66 (2002 - 2008)
Discussion of BMW's 4th generation E65/E66 7 Series flagship. The E65 generated much controversy, due to its radical styling and iDrive user difficulties. Nonetheless, the E65 broke records to become the best-selling 7-series iteration ever, especially after its 2005 facelift.

Bluetooth problem. Car will not go into pairing mode

My 2003 745Li will not go into pairing mode. Trying to connect an iPhone 6s. I hit the car last year and just got a Bluetooth module on eBay. When I put the Bluetooth in the phone slot in the center console it just recognizes it as a portable phone. It never goes into pairing mode. I've tried putting the car in start 1 position and also tried simply starting the car but nothing seems to work. When I go to settings on the idrive it does not have an option for telephone. What am I doing wrong?

Well the center console phone holder has a spacer in it which I thought was part of the Bluetooth system. How do I determine for sure if I have the retrofit or not? Thx

WAAAAAAY back in 2006 on my 02, in order to be able to utilize bluetooth, you had to install a BTUM in your console. For an 02, I purchased the CPT8000 BTUM which installs right where the phone cradle is in the console. The module has a button on it that you have to push to make it discoverable, and it's pin was written on it's label on the back. After you do that once, it pairs automactically with your phone each time you get in the car

Do some research to make sure you get the right module for your model year. THere was also a CPT9000 BTUM as i recall

I just sold my 02 this year, and that BTUM worked on every phone I owned in those 13 years

All in this thread from yesteryear......

thanks

" The module has a button on it that you have to push to make it discoverable,"

In all my searches on this subject yours was the only posting that mentioned pushing the button on the module to make it discoverable. Once I did that, it worked like a charm.
Thanks

You're welcome, glad I could help

You'll have lots of "experiences" owning the E65, and the forum is a wealth of knowledge recovering from those experiences. Mine was still the best car I ever owned (and I'm in my 60's). Contribute to our shared love of these cars and we'll all be rewarded
